Sharing Passion and Inspiring Excellence

On Saturday, we attended the South Australian German Teachers’ Association (SAGTA) Annual Conference. This event is always a major highlight of our professional learning calendar, and this year was no exception!

The conference provided a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with fellow German educators from all over South Australia - representing public, private, and independent schools from R-12. We spent the day engaging in conversations and sharing innovative pedagogy and teaching ideas. The purpose of this collaboration is to bring the absolute best, most engaging, and highest-quality learning experiences back to our own classrooms.

We finished the day by attending one of the German films which is showing in Adelaide at the moment at part of the German film festival. Following that up with the Eurovision song contest made it a very Eurotastic weekend.

German Film Festival

The Kino for Kids section of the HSBC German Film Festival screens in Adelaide from May 6 to May 27,2026. The festival is taking place at Palace Nova Eastend and Palace Nova Prospect cinemas, featuring a curated selection of celebrated German-language films for children and teens.

German Language Week

Held throughout the month of May, German Language Week is all about celebrating creativity and a shared love for the language. Representatives from the Goethe-Institut were at the conference to launch some student competitions. Please see flyers below this article with specific details.

We encourage students to get involved and will provide support if needed. Due to the short timeline, students will need to create / film and prepare their entries in their own time.

The competitions are:

Community Collage: Create a visual collage showcasing the different languages you can find in your local community.

Poetry Recital: Practise and film yourself reciting a German poem (chosen from a select list).

Short Film Challenge: Create a brief video introducing yourself in German and sharing a favourite German word you’ve learnt and say why you love it!

Tongue Twister Champion: Learn a tricky German tongue twister, film yourself saying it confidently, and design a creative poster to match.

Important Deadline: All entries are due by May 31st.
