Prep to Grade 2:

Prep

During Term 2, our Prep learners have continued to build their confidence and enthusiasm for learning. Literacy remains a key focus, with students enjoying opportunities to develop their reading, speaking, listening and writing skills. They have worked hard to write simple sentences, record their ideas and expand their vocabulary through engaging classroom experiences.

In Numeracy, students have strengthened their understanding of number concepts through hands-on activities, games and problem-solving tasks. This term, they have also been introduced to new mathematical concepts including data, length and mass. Through sorting, measuring, comparing and collecting information, students have developed their ability to observe, question and make connections in the world around them.

It has been wonderful to see our little learners demonstrate curiosity, resilience and a growing independence as they embrace new challenges. We are proud of the progress they have made and look forward to continuing their learning journey in Term 3.

100 Days Of School and Milo's Birthday!

To celebrate learning all their first sounds, the Preps will have a special celebration on Friday 31st July.

Students are invited to come dressed as their favourite letter character. The holidays will be a great time to start thinking about what costume they would like to wear on the day. Please find some inspiration in the picture below.

On August 7th, we will be celebrating 100 Days Of School! The theme is going to be "100 Days Smarter." Please look out for costumes during the holidays (Spotlight and Kmart have a great range). Children are welcome to come dressed as a grandma or grandpa or they can create something unique (100 puffballs,100 tally marks or 100 coloured hearts).

Grade 1/2A:

What a wonderful term we have had.

In our financial maths unit, we learned about the different values of the coins and notes and began counting and adding money. Students used skip-counting strategies to count different dominations of money more effectively, and solved addition and subtraction questions around total cost and change given. Over the last two weeks, along with many end of term assessments, we have been exploring time and duration. Students have been identifying and comparing the duration of different events/ activities and identifying dates and time-between-dates on calendars.

Literacy

Continuing our phonics journey, Grade 1s have added more phonemes/ graphemes to their repertoire with /air/ "air, are, and ere", /oo/ "oo", and /ul/ "le". Grade 2s have been focussing on suffix -ion and suffix -ous.

For writing, we have been all about procedural texts, with students listening to and giving oral directions, and writing recipes and instructions using important text features like headings, subheading, dot-points, and sequenced steps.

A highlight of our writing unit was making fairy bread which really encouraged students to use precise language in the recipes that they wrote.  It was nice for students to have some hands on learning (who knew buttering bread was so tricky!), and they loved getting to enjoy the final product.
