Principal's Update

STOMP Performance- on Monday every class perfomed 2 dances after being involved in our 8 weeks of learning dance moves! The Performance culminated in a whole shcool dance - which was fantastic! Well done everyone.
Another HUGE Term - what a successful one it has been!
WELLBEING WEDNESDAYS:
In addition to all our daily learning tasks and specialist classes, we introduced Clubs on Wednesday afternoons. Wednesdays are fast becoming the favourite day of the week! We have Wellbeing Wednesday lunchtimes and then our cross-age clubs - students chose which club they wanted to be in for the first 5 weeks of term and then a different club for the second five weeks, with an EXPO at the end of each unit - showcasing to our families what activities have occurred. Clubs for this term were:
Book Club, Maintenance, board games, science experiments, art, Lego Masters and computer bots and coding. Clubs will continue next term!
SQUASH:
Our grade 3-6 students all completed 4 weeks of squash lessons at Mulgrave Country Club culminating in finals being played at the courts! We were able to cover the cost of the coaching through a Sporting Schools grant. Every student wore eye protective glasses and had access to a racquet and balls- a little larger than the tiny black squash balls. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to try something different, and a number of students are keen to return and join in local competitions at Mulgrave CC, and I have heard some students are keen to get their parents down there to play!
*MCC have provided flyers for interested families - available in the office*
CITY EXCURSION:
I joined our grade 3/ 4 students for an excursion to the city - in class they worked out where they wanted to go, how much entry would be to different venues, kilometres walked and the best mode of transport to get there.
The train was chosen and we enjoyed travelling to the city. We ventured to the Museum and enjoyed the dinosaurs and the rainforest garden and then played on the playground outside before walking via a planned detour to HAIGH's chocolate shop then onto the Aqaurium for the afternoon. Following a walk back along the Yarra to Flinders St Station we were all happy to get back to Glen Waverly station after a fantastic day out. Great work Mr Noordhoff and grade 3/ 4. We walked over 15,500 steps!
TERM 3:
We are looking forward to welcoming some International students at the beginning of Term 3 for several weeks. The students will be getting a snap shot of what life in an Auastralian primary school is like. Please welcome them.
Enjoy the break over the holidays - we look forward to seeing you all in Term 3 "Ready to Learn".
Stay safe always and be kind,
Meredith Thornton
Principal
Enrolments always welcome - please spread the word about our fantastic school.
