Kitchen Garden Program

What's been happening in the kitchen?

The 3/4s have had an action-packed term in the kitchen and garden at SKiPPS. In Kitchen we worked in small groups to cook five different pancake recipes and got to have a taste test of them all. The pancakes we made were;

  • Spring onion pancakes (Chong You Bing),
  • Chocolate Pancakes,
  • Herb and Cheese Savoury Pancakes,
  • Vegan Banana Pancakes and
  • Vegan Blueberry Pancakes.

We learnt how to accurately measure dry ingredients such as flour and baking powder using cup and spoon measures and digital scales. We had a chance to work with our amazing parent and community volunteers to familiarise ourselves with the kitchen set up.

Thanks to all the adults who gave up their time to help us in the kitchen. Without you, our sessions wouldn’t be anywhere near as ambitious and exciting. We look forward to seeing you again next term!

The recipes can be found here;

The garden

In Garden we have collected seeds, made seed bombs and lemon myrtle tea bags, prepared garden beds ready for planting and planted seedlings and seeds so we will have produce to harvest in Term 2.

We have spent quality time getting to know the chooks, collected their eggs, cleaned up after them, made sure they had food and water and collected leafy greens from the garden to hand feed them.

We also supported them and kept them safe while they free roamed around the school grounds. We have spent a lot of time collecting and organising the compost from around the school, ensuring the tumblers and compost bins have a balance of carbon and nitrogen.

The 3/4s also like to work together to keep our school clean and tidy by doing environmental walks to collect litter and sweeping the paths and around the sand pit.

Volunteers always needed

Remember we are always looking for volunteers in both the kitchen and garden sessions.

To ensure that St Kilda Park Primary School is a child safe environment, we will require all volunteers to obtain/present a valid Working with Children Check to the School Office when you sign-in to the Visitor's Register for your session.
