Grade 1

General:

The Grade 1 students have enjoyed a very busy and exciting term! Some of the many special events included Pyjama Day, our excursion to the Museum of Play and Art (MoPA), Mr Holloway’s retirement sausage sizzle, the Book Week performance by Perform Education, the KidsROAR body safety incursion, our Booknic with buddies, Grandparents Afternoon and the Father’s Day Breakfast. We are very proud of the enthusiasm and positive attitude the students have shown while participating in these wonderful experiences.

English:

In English, students explored the story Giraffes Can’t Dance as part of our Book Week learning. They used the book as inspiration to plan, write and publish their own imaginative narratives. The Grade 1 students also performed a readers’ theatre based on the story for our Book Week Showcase. They did a fantastic job speaking clearly, confidently playing their roles and performing in front of the school community.

Mathematics:

In Mathematics, students have developed their understanding of partitioning numbers in different ways. They have also explored location and positional language, investigated halves, practised sharing collections into equal groups and developed their understanding of time. Students have enjoyed using hands-on materials and participating in practical activities to explain and demonstrate their mathematical thinking.

Integrated Studies, Cyber Safety & 4Rs:

During Discovery Learning, students used their senses to investigate the world around them and explored how light and sound work. In Cyber Safety, students learned what it means to be an upstander and how to be a kind, safe and supportive friend online. Through our 4Rs learning, students explored stress management and practised strategies they can use to help them remain calm and manage challenging situations.
