Eltham High School’s Birthday Week Celebrations 

Last week, the Student Voice and Leadership team hosted ‘Birthday Week’ to celebrate 100 years of Eltham High School with our young people. It was a huge success, with many students participating in activities across the week.  

On Tuesday, students and staff faced off in a game of Pin the Tail on the EHS Stallion. Many came close, many didn’t come even close to close…but in the end, Felicity Gook (Year 7, Pakana House) was the winner! Mr Sicari gave it a go, but wasn’t quite coordinated enough for the win.  

On Wednesday, it was time for musical statues. The 100s building came alive as many participated and even more cheered on from the sidelines. When the music stopped, and one chair remained, Chelsea Holding (Year 7, Pakana) was the triumphant one! 

Thursday’s celebrations involved our annual R U OK Day Breakfast. This provided a lovely opportunity for our community to come together, check in and start the day in a really positive way, together. A huge thank you to Yas Ziada and the VET students who cooked up some of the delicious food, and to the Student Services Team for supporting the breakfast through Breakfast Club.  

Finally, on Friday, students across Years 7-9 participated in a House Trivia Challenge, we hosted our first ever Cake Picnic, and played a giant game of Pass the Parcel. The sun was shining, and the 100s courtyard was bustling as many students came to be part of the celebrations. We had 21 entrants in the cake picnic, showcasing the incredible creativity amongst our students and staff. After voting closed, everyone was able to enjoy a slice of cake; it was a wholesome end to what was a fantastic week of connection and celebration! The winning cake was made my Sophie Laing and Mae Stirling; their EHS horse was the piece-de-resistance!

All of the events would not have been possible without the incredible leadership and commitment of our Student Voice and Leadership Team. They have worked tirelessly to bring the week together, giving up much of their free time to help organise and prepare. We are so proud of their hard work and dedication; all which has helped us bring our centenary celebrations to life.
