Foundation Learning Community

Foundation Newsletter
Thank you to all the lovely Mums, Grandmothers, Aunts and special people who came along to celebrate Mother’s Day with us. Although we were very sad when you left, we loved having you visit our classroom to see all the great learning we are doing. We were very proud of the children presenting prayer during assembly and dedicating the song VIP to the special ladies in their lives.
Literacy:
We have been working hard in Literacy each morning and have started small group work. After our shared learning, students are breaking up to read a text together, build words, practice our letters, use the Sounds and Words book and lots of other great learning opportunities. Every morning is very busy in the Foundation room!!
Home Reading and check-in days
It would be a great help if your child arrived at school with time to read to the teacher on their check in day. The morning bell goes at 8:50, so please allow ten to fifteen minutes for your child to get their check in done.
Helpful hints for home reading
- Aim to read the take home decodable book 3-4 times in the week. This will encourage fluency and familiarisation of words and sounds.
- Pull apart your keychain to make three letter words to sound out and read. You can ask your child to pull down the letters to make the word ‘map’ or you make a word for your child to read. Encourage tour child to sound out the individual letters slowly and then blend together to form the word
Numeracy:
We have been learning about partitioning numbers to 10 in various ways. The children are getting lots of practice breaking numbers up and representing them in different ways. Over the next 2 weeks, we will be learning about 2D shapes and their many attributes.
Foundation Mass
Today the Foundation students attended Mass. They participated in prayer, listened to Fr Junjun and sang beautifully. Thank you to those who were able to attend with us.
