Middle Learning Community

Students have made a positive start to Term 2, with strong engagement and plenty of positive learning taking place across the MLC.
Thank you to all the mums, nans, aunties and special women who visited our classrooms last week for Mother’s Day. We hope you enjoyed spending this special time with your child.
This Term, students will be commencing our Religious Education unit on ‘Circle of Life’. In this unit, students will be exploring topics of grief, loss and suffering. We are aware that this unit may bring up emotions for students and families. We will ensure that a safe and supportive space is created through these discussions. If you have any concerns or questions and/or would like to inform us of any information before this topic begins, please do not hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your continued support.
Next week on Tuesday 19th May, we will be hosing the Biggest Morning Tea. Students are asked to bring a plate to share (no nuts please) and to bring a gold coin donation. Family and friends are invited to join us for the morning tea at 10:30am.
Year 3
In Literacy, we have finished reading our text ‘Off We Go Around Australia’. The students have enjoyed learning about different places in Australia and all the creative illustrations that feature in our book. Next week we will begin our new book ‘Yirra and Her Deadly Dog Demon!’. During SpellEx lessons, the students have now learnt all the different ways to spell the long vowel sound of /e/. When they are reading at home, it would be great if you could encourage them to spot any words that contain this long vowel sound.
In Maths, the students have been exploring Multiplication and Division using arrays. It would be fantastic if the students could practise their times tables at home too!
They have loved engaging in Digital Technology lessons and exploring the devices. The students have recently learnt how to complete a ‘check in’ and have had fun answering a weekly quiz on Blooket.
Year 4
In literacy, students have been learning ways to spell the grapheme /u/ and /oo/, ‘Tricky Words’ beautiful, through, lose/losing and usual/usually and open and closed syllables. We have started reading our novel Uncle Xbox and writing our factual recount on the colonisation of Australia and the impacts on First Nations Australians.
In Maths, students have continued to learn about Length and Area. They enjoyed the rich task called Area Architects where students had to design a park with a given area, with specified inclusions.
