The Green Team is back for 2026!

We are excited to announce that the Green Team is back in 2026 and is pumped for a massive year ahead. In the first few weeks of the year, the new Sustainability Coordinator and the student leaders, have been pondering and brainstorming about how we can make Brentwood even more sustainable and environmentally friendly. We have also been busy in the Green Space, planting new drought-tolerant plants, as well as weeding and pruning.

Brentwood’s partnership with the Eastern Alliance for Sustainable Learning

Brentwood has had a long-standing partnership with the Eastern Alliance for Sustainable Learning (EASL), which has helped us achieve our goal of being recognised as a five-star ResourceSmart School. The EASL is comprised of seven member Councils from Melbourne’s east (Monash, Boroondara, Knox, Manningham, Maroondah, Whitehorse and Yarra Ranges). EASL provides professional development, learning and networking opportunities for early years, primary and secondary schools throughout the year.  ResourceSmart Schools (RSS) is a free program offered by Sustainability Victoria that supports Victorian schools to embed sustainability across the school facilities, community and curriculum, while saving resources and money for the school.

In Week 3, we had a visit by the Monash area facilitator, who attended our Green Team meeting and congratulated us on our past achievements, but also stressed the importance of not losing focus becoming complacent. Achieving our five-star status in 2021 was only the beginning, not the end goal. In 2026, we apply for recertification, which means our focus continues to shifts towards how we maintain that five-star status, across four main areas: energy usage, water conservation, waste reduction and biodiversity. There’s a lot more we can do as a school and as a community. We have big plans in mind for this year, so watch this space.

Together, we can work toward a more sustainable and eco-friendly future.

The Green Team continue to do an outstanding job!

They’ve been hard at work cleaning, restoring, and planting a variety of Australian native plants and vegetables. The team also repaired the water tank, which now allows us to use sustainable water sources for our garden. New soil and mulch have been added—not only to support healthy growth, but also to keep the area safe and welcoming for everyone.

In addition to their hands-on work, the Green Team has begun educating students about important environmental initiatives. They’ve been raising awareness about the Container Deposit Scheme, proper recycling practices, and water conservation. Our Green Team will also be collecting cans and bottles at the school at lunch times, students can make their deposit there. Eye-catching posters created by the team have been placed around the school, reminding everyone to act sustainably and dispose of waste responsibly.

Fantastic work, Green Team! Your efforts are making a real difference. 🌱👏

The brand-new Green Team Information Posters are now displayed around the school—in offices, hallways, locker bays, and classrooms! These vibrant posters are part of our ongoing effort to promote environmental responsibility by encouraging everyone to properly sort and dispose of their waste—especially recyclables. Please take a moment to remember to throw away rubbish in the correct bins, at home, at work or even when going out. If each of us does our part, we can create a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable school environment.

Secondly, we are excited to share that Brentwood is registered as a Donation Partner on the Victoria's Container Deposit Scheme (CDS). Please consider donating to Brentwood by selecting Brentwood as your donation partner on the CDS VIC East App as per the below instructions. Please take your recyclable bottles and cans to your nearest CDS centre. Brentwood Secondary College’s Donation Partner ID is C2000010797.
