Year Five/Six News

Term Two Wrap Up!
What a busy term we have had in the Senior Learning Centre! From winter sports and exciting new learning, to incursions, excursions, and Social Squad catch-ups, we have enjoyed every minute of it. It has been a term full of rich experiences, teamwork, and fun, and we are looking forward to what’s ahead!
Creative Reading Responses in Reading
Students have been developing creative ways to respond to texts they read. This term, we read The Night They Stormed Eureka by Jackie French. They have created posters, newspaper articles, and diary entries to show their understanding. This has helped them think more deeply about characters, settings, and themes.
Historical Information Reports in Writing
Students have been learning how to structure informative reports about historical events. They are focusing on using facts, clear headings, and subject-specific vocabulary. This helps them present information in a clear and organised way.
Positive Self-Talk in Respectful Relationships
Students have been exploring how positive self-talk can improve confidence and learning. They are practising replacing negative thoughts with encouraging statements. This supports resilience and a more positive classroom mindset.
Ballarat Art Gallery Incursion
During our excursion to the Ballarat Art Gallery, students explored a range of artworks focusing on Lake Wendouree during the Gold Rush. They discussed how artists use colour, texture, and technique to express ideas and create meaning. This experience inspired students to work collaboratively on an artwork and reflect on their knowledge of Lake Wendouree.
