Middle Learning Community

The grade 3-4 students have been working on developing their computer skills, focusing on the practical elements such as how to touch type, send an email, create a 'word' document (doc) and a slideshow.

Each week, we review our Cyber Smart rules to ensure that we all remember how to be safe when using technology.

Respect: I am kind and caring to others.

Trust: I ask for help when something doesn't feel right.

Responsibility: I protect my personal information.

Investigate: I question what I hear and see online.

Senior Learning Community

The grade 5/6 students have continued to learn about the importance of being cybersmart when using technology and how to be smart when online.

Some of the key focus has been:

Personal safety and the risks associated with online activity.

  • The qualities of a good citizen and how this applies when we are online.
  • Everything you post online is a piece of the puzzle that makes up your digital brand or reputation.
  • Strategies to deal with cyberbullying and hacking.

The students have already been very open and honest about their use of technology, and we hope that by learning about different scenarios, both the good and the bad, that they will become well-rounded digital citizens.

During Harmony Week, the students used stop-motion to animate one word associated with core Australian values. Their task was to make their word move without using the video feature, with the final animations assembled into a ‘supercut’. The students worked in small groups of 5 and used materials such as playdough, LEGO, letter magnets and paper to animate their word. The end result is outstanding, enjoy!
