Victorian Premier's Reading Challenge

he Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is back for 2026!

Since its beginnings, the Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge (VPRC) acts in recognition of the importance of reading for enjoyment and for ongoing literacy development. Year after year, the Premiers’ Reading Challenge continues to inspire more children to read, helping to build essential literacy skills that support their education. It is not a competition; but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 4 September, 2026. It is not compulsory for students

to participate, but many students look forward to the challenge.

Students can read picture books, short stories, poems or non-fiction books in any language as part of the challenge.

Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and/or teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books.

All children who meet the Challenge by 4 September, will receive a certificate of achievement from the Department of Education towards the end of Term 4.

To participate, students and their families have access to the Premiers’ Reading Challenge online portal. Using the online portal allows you to add the books you have read directly into the PRC database from the comfort of home.

Mitcham Primary School students have been provided with their login details for 2026 in a printed letter that will be sent home with students from their classroom teacher. As soon as you receive your login details you can get started!
