Alumni Stories

Tatiana Bush (Class of 2019) and Kenita Bush (Class of 2017 and 2022 Year 12 Huntingtower)

Kenita and Tati are loving their work with Mimal Land Management Rangers at Weemol– here they are in the chopper doing Rock Art surveys, and last month they were completing cultural burning.

Kevin Garrawurra (Class of 2021)

Kev is very happy living in Ramingining now. He goes to school and also works for CDP three mornings a week. Kev is playing local footy and gets flown into Darwin for some matches with the Wanderers. He will get his licence when the remote Drive Safe team visit Ramingining soon, and he wants to apply for a job with a tourist company and do some of the local tours - he figures his English is good, and he's got all his Melbourne experience which will help lots.

Tiwi Island Footy Champions!

Team Imalu defeated Muluwurri 94 - 78 to claim the title for 2025. Imalu Tigers had lost all season to the Magpies, who were undefeated, so this win was extra special!

MITS Alumni Cecil Puruntatamerri was voted Best on Ground, kicking 7 goals. Other Alumni featuring for Imalu were Paul Babui, Adam Minjin, Jessie Clayton, Kaleb Brogan-Rioli (scored the first goal of the final for Imalu), Max Puruntatamerri, and Sam Warrior an emergency player.

Pauline Manangaygay (Class of 2019 and 2024 Year 12 Kingswood College)

Fleur (former MITS boarding staff) is connecting with some of our Alumni as she visits communities in her role with the Michael Long Leadership Program. On July 17th, Fleur met with Pauline in Ramingining. Pauline is about to start work at the Women’s Safe House in Ramingining.

John Minjin (Class of 2016 and Year 12 at SKC)

In June, John commenced 2 shifts per week as grounds-staff at St Kevin's, working with the caretaker. In August the work has paused for Winter, and John’s boss in the NT is keen for more hands-on-deck during the dry season, so Johnny has returned home. He will be going mustering near Katherine.
