From the Boarding Houses

371 - Senior Girls
The Senior Girls began the term with a trip to the Winter Wonderland at Adventure Park in Geelong, where the girls had the chance to play in the snow, enjoy the rides, and spend time together following the long holidays.
A major highlight for the Term so far has been the MITS Celebration of the Arts, where our students proudly showcased pieces they had been working on for months. The evening was a wonderful celebration of creativity and culture. A group of Girls showed tremendous courage by putting on our very first fashion parade, proudly modelling their own designs as well as items from Clothing the Gaps and Gammin Threads. Others hosted the evening with confidence or performed musical and spoken pieces, both individually and alongside staff. It was a truly special night that highlighted the many talents of our students and was enjoyed by all.
With the football season drawing to a close and basketball soon to follow, the girls have embraced a variety of different activities, including mini golf, roller-skating, footy games, and a range of in-house activities such as arts and crafts and no-bake cooking. These opportunities have provided great balance between busy school routines and time to relax and have fun together.
Academically, there has been a significant improvement in school attendance, and the Senior Girls remain committed to their tutoring sessions with the A-Team, showing their determination to stay on top of their learning. For our Year 8 students, excitement has been building as they recently learned of their Partner Schools for next year - an important milestone in their MITS journey.
Overall, Term 3 has had a fantastic start. With warmer weather just around the corner, our focus will be on getting the girls outside more often and continuing to provide enriching opportunities that build on their growth, confidence, and sense of community.
Lockington - Year 7 Students
Students returned to MITS from their bush break with a positive start to Term 3. The students began the term focusing on their project for the MITS Art Show, and getting back to training and playing footy with RJFC. Unfortunately the girls haven’t made finals, however our U12 fellas are through to the grand final and the U13s are due for their qualifying final.
Students have adjusted well to the boarding routine and shown great engagement in house activities including going to a trampoline park, roller skating, participating in a fun run, gardening with Rick and Liz at Tuerong, visiting Essendon’s VFLW team at The Hangar and going to Melbourne Zoo as well as a day trip to Geelong to visit Wathurong Aboriginal Co-op for Kangroo baffles!
We are looking forward to an upcoming camp weekend to spend time back on Country. Students have also started their practice for street leave and are showing they can be responsible and follow MITS values.
364 – Senior Fellas
MITS Celebration of the Arts
On Friday 15th August the second annual MITS Celebration of the Arts was held across our boarding houses. The fellas worked with volunteers Jane Gale, Alicia Whyte and Rei Haggie over a number of weeks to produce some stunning artwork and photographs.
This year the boys also enjoyed having black and white portraits taken. The theme was 'Strength and Identity'. They look amazing and will be sent home for families to reflect.
Music
Kendyn Brown (MITS Alumni) has been sharing his musical talents with 364 fellas and Lockington boys on a Friday evening throughout Term 2 and 3. They are strengthening their abilities with yidaki, electric guitar and drums.
We look forward to having Kendyn continue to support the fellas.
Basketball Finals
Our basketball fellas wrap up the season this week and we are pleased to acknowledge their hard work and determination has seen the U13 team of Greg, Curtis and Nick into the finals. Wishing them all the best.
Footy Finals
As the season draws to a close we have 3 teams still in contention for the grand final win. U15 with Christello and Harry and U14 Curtis and Marius have already secured their grand final place on 31st August. U13 with Greg will take to the field this week to earn their place.
Student Chef
The fellas have been excited to show their cooking abilities with ‘Student Chef’ commencing this term. Small groups determine the menu and work alongside Kat from our kitchen team and prepare 2 course meals for their peers. The activity has proved to be a favourite amongst the fellas.
