It’s been a very busy couple of weeks. Teachers are busy assessing and working on student reports. The reports will be available through the Compass platform at the end of term.

Maths Enrichment at CSPS

Our Year 4-6 Mathematics Enrichment students have continued to develop their problem solving skills and stretch their thinking in their weekly sessions, taught by our Learning Specialist of Numeracy, Mrs Stephanie Sim.

The program for high achieving senior school students, sees students working both independently and collaboratively within sessions and aims to promote and improve creativity and flexibility of thinking when solving mathematical problems.

One of the highlights of our Enrichment Program is the students’ participation in the APSMO Maths Olympiad. APSMO (Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiads) is a non-for-profit, professional organisation which runs competitions in Mathematics problem solving. Students compete in four separate competitions throughout the year, working individually to solve the set problems.

The opportunity to compete against their CSPS peers and thousands of other participants across Australia, New Zealand and the Asia-Pacific region is an enjoyable aspect of the program and highly motivating for some of our students.

We wish our students the best of luck when they tackle Competition #2 next week.

Wellbeing at CSPS - The Peacemakers Program

I had the privilege of presenting our Peacemakers with their badges at last week’s senior assembly and acknowledging the many returning students who have chosen to continue in the role. It was a proud moment to recognise their commitment to supporting others and contributing so positively to our school community. It was also wonderful to see so many parents and families joining us to celebrate this important milestone for our student leaders.

Our Peacemaker Program has been running at CSPS for many years and continues to make a positive impact on student wellbeing and relationships across the school. Peacemakers are students from Years 4 to 6 who support their peers during recess and lunch by helping to resolve minor playground issues and encouraging positive, respectful interactions.

Peacemakers assist students by:

  • Working through disagreements - guiding peers to talk through misunderstandings
  • Understanding perspectives - helping students recognise the feelings of others
  • Solving problems - supporting peers to identify solutions together
  • Finding friends or activities - ensuring no student feels left out
  • Regulating emotions - assisting students to calm down when needed

As our 2025 Year 6 Peacemakers have moved on to secondary school, we recently recruited a new group of Peacemakers for 2026. We were delighted by the strong interest shown by our students.

Our new recruits participated in a training session with Mrs Pappas and Mrs Scott, where they developed the knowledge, skills and confidence needed for this important leadership role.

We look forward to seeing our Peacemakers continue to make a meaningful difference by helping to create a safe, inclusive and supportive playground for all students. Thank you to our wonderful Year 6 leaders, Lilly and Sunday for presenting at assembly.
