Respectful Relationships Education at CSPS

This week in Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR), our Year 5 students explored the concept of character strengths and the positive personal qualities that help us build strong relationships and contribute to a caring community.

Through class discussions and reflective activities, students considered the qualities they value in themselves and others. They learned that character strengths are personal attributes such as kindness, courage, fairness, inclusiveness, loyalty, determination, humour, and caring that help us make positive choices, support others, and overcome challenges. Strengths-based learning approaches have been shown to support student wellbeing, positive behaviour, and academic achievement. By developing an awareness of their own character strengths, students are better equipped to build resilience, form positive relationships, and contribute to a respectful and inclusive school environment.

This latest display features illustrations created by students from Year 5. As part of their learning, students created illustrations showing themselves or a character doing something positive for another person. They then shared their work with the class, identifying the actions and character strengths displayed in each scenario. This encouraged students to recognise the many ways people can make the world a better place through everyday acts of kindness and respect.

The learning focused on helping students:

  • Describe their personal qualities and strengths.
  • Understand how these strengths influence success and resilience.
  • Monitor their progress in developing positive character traits.
  • Reflect on the value of working independently and contributing positively to their community.

We look forward to displaying further students' learning on our Respectful Relationships display board. We are sure the Grade 5 students would love for you to stop by and take a look next time you are in the building.
