Wellbeing Focus Term 3 - Persistence

At St Michael’s, our wellbeing focus for this term is persistence.

We want our students to become persistent learners - children who don’t give up easily, who face challenges with courage, and who keep trying even when things get tough.

Why persistence matters:

✅ It helps children build confidence and independence

✅ It teaches resilience—bouncing back after setbacks

✅ It improves problem-solving skills

✅ It lays the foundation for success in learning and life

How we’re supporting persistence at school:

🧠 Encouraging a “try again” mindset

👏 Celebrating effort, not just results

🎯 Setting small goals and working step-by-step

🤝 Modelling how to stay calm and ask for help when needed

Ways you can support persistence at home:

  • Praise your child for effort, not perfection: “I’m proud of how you kept trying!”
  • Share stories about a time when you had to stick with something difficult
  • Break down big tasks into smaller steps so they feel manageable
  • Remind them that mistakes are part of learning

Let’s work together to help every child at St Michael’s become a confident, capable, and persistent learner!

Message from Ange

Dear families,

Students at St. Michael's have been participating in online sessions with Kids helpline to assist them in identifying and putting a stop to bullying. This has been a great follow on from our whole school focus on empathy and encouraging people to be upstanders when they see unsafe and unkind words and behaviour,
