Angela's Message (Acting Principal)

Almost half way!

I'm not sure about you, but Term 3 seems to be flying by. We are just about to go into week 5 of a 9 week term. Denise has officially commenced her Long Service Leave and has arrived Safely in Africa. We can't wait to hear of all her safari adventures when she returns in week 8.

Swimming Program

Today is the last day of the St. Michael's Swimming Program at Elite Swim school. To ensure that all students have the opportunity to attend the swimming lessons, many changes were needed to be made to the daily schedule. I am so proud of students and staff ability to exercise flexibility in this. Swimming is an important, life saving skill. A special congratulations to students and their families that find swimming quite                                           anxiety inducing. You did it!

Parenting made easier

Last night Dan Petro presented information to parents around some challenges we face in what is a tough role. He provided strategies to support them in making parenting easier. The message of supporting or children to be both independent and likeable was a message that resonated with me as a parent. If I enable/ignore some behaviours in my children - laziness, cheekiness, selfishness - am I supporting their independence and their likability for others? Thank you to Dan for sharing your expertise, the parents that attended and the staff that supported this event.

Building Update

Our building program continues to progress on target. This week the builders started to put in the steel frames for the new corridors. I do not have pictures of this as I will visit the site on Tuesday next week and add new photos to the next newsletter.

There has been some noise and vibration this week with the steel frame construction. On Wednesday 1/2D and 1/2RF moved to the hall in anticipation of the works and the potential disruption of dust in the vents. There was no additional dust fall detected at the end of the day however, the vents will be cleaned this weekend by Bruno our maintenance worker to avoid future excess dust falling.

Punctuality Plus

Congratulations to 1/2L for being the Punctuality Champions last week, with fewer than 5 latecomers throughout the week. This week's winners are 1/2D, with 0 latecomers. Please assist your child and their class win this award by getting them to school before the gates are locked at 8:45 am, allowing time for them to arrive at their classrooms and unpack by 8.50 am.

School Closure Day

Our school closure day for Term 3 will be on Tuesday September 2nd. On this day, our staff will engage in Professional Learning focusing on the teaching of Mathematics. Please place this date in your calendar. All day care will be available with Their Care.

Have a week of Gratitude and Grins
