 Wellbeing

As we settle into another busy term, I’ve been spending time in our classrooms watching our students learn, collaborate, and grow together. One thing that consistently shines through is how deeply our five school values—Integrity, Excellence, Kindness, Gratitude, and Respect—guide the everyday choices our children make.

In an SJV classroom, these values aren't just words on a poster; they are the heart of how our learning spaces function. Here is a quick look at what our values look like in action every day:

Integrity: Doing the right thing even when no one is watching—like owning up to a mistake during a game, or being honest about how much effort went into a piece of work.

Excellence: Trying our best, not being perfect. It’s the courage to tackle a tricky maths problem or edit a story to make it just a bit stronger than the draft before.

Kindness: Offering a gentle word when a friend is feeling stuck, including someone new at a group table, or helping a classmate tidy up a spill.

Gratitude: Taking a moment to appreciate our classroom environment, saying a genuine "thank you" to teachers and classmates, and valuing the resources we share.

Respect: Listening actively when others are speaking, taking care of shared supplies, and valuing the different ideas and backgrounds everyone brings to our community.

When children see these values modeled at school and reinforced at home, they feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.

A quick idea for home: Next time you're chatting around the dinner table or on the drive home, try asking: "Which school value did you get to practice in the classroom today?" You might be surprised by the thoughtful answers they share!

Thank you for your ongoing partnership in supporting our vibrant, caring school culture.
