Dear SJV Families,

Welcome back for Term 3! 

I hope all families had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday and are ready for another exciting term here at SJV. We have a wonderful term ahead, with the Confirmation program, Book Week (including our Book Week Parade on Thursday 3 September), the Book Fair, Grandparents and Special Friends Day, St John Vianney's Feast Day (Tuesday 4 August), Hoop Time, and our School Musical, Westall 66 (Thursday 27 August), just to name a few. It promises to be an exciting term with many opportunities for all of our wonderful students.

Walking through the school grounds over the past two weeks, it has been wonderful to see the classrooms buzzing with energy once again. The children have returned with bright smiles, full of stories from their holidays and eager to dive straight back into their learning.

Term 3 is traditionally one of our busiest and most productive terms of the school year. Over the next ten weeks, our students will engage in rich learning experiences across all curriculum areas, with a strong focus on tracking their personal growth, embracing new challenges, and striving to achieve their personal best.

As always, thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, we look forward to another successful and rewarding term at St John Vianney's.

Our New Administration Building is Open!

We are thrilled to announce that our new Administration Building is now officially open!

This exciting milestone marks the beginning of a wonderful new chapter for St John Vianney's School and is the result of many years/months of planning and construction.

While our staff have now moved into the new building and are enjoying the beautiful new spaces, we are still waiting for some of the remaining furniture to be delivered and installed over the coming weeks. Once everything is in place, the building will provide a welcoming, modern and functional environment for our SJV community.

We would like to sincerely thank our school community for your patience, understanding and support throughout the building process. Your flexibility during the various changes to access arrangements and temporary office locations has been greatly appreciated.

We are incredibly proud of this wonderful new facility and look forward to welcoming families into this beautiful space. It is an investment in the future of St John Vianney's and will serve our community for many years to come.

Building Update

With our new Administration Building now open and nearing full completion, we are excited to commence Stage 2 of our Building Project.

During the recent school holidays, the PFA shed, sports shed, existing basketball court and sandpit area were demolished to prepare the site for the next phase of development. Stage 2 will include the construction of a new basketball court, along with extensive landscaping works that will further enhance our outdoor learning and recreational spaces for students.

As construction progresses, there will continue to be some temporary changes to access around parts of the school. As a reminder, students and parents will continue to enter the school through the same gate that was used last term. Students will line up on the oval before school, where staff on yard duty will direct them. Students who ride their bikes are asked to place them in the designated bike area along the fence line behind the Adventure Playground.

When the morning bell rings, teachers will collect their classes from the oval and escort students through the temporary portable gates to their classrooms. These arrangements remain necessary due to the limited access around the construction site and help ensure the safety of all students.

At the end of each school day, we ask that parents continue to collect their children from the oval area and refrain from entering the classroom areas. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe environment for everyone.

The second stage of the project is expected to be completed by the end of Term 3 (September), bringing this significant redevelopment to its conclusion.

We are excited to see this project come to life and look forward to providing our students and community with outstanding new learning and recreational spaces that will be enjoyed for many years to come.

Grandparents / Special Friends Day

On Tuesday the 4th of August, we will be celebrating our annual ‘Grandparent’s / Special Friends Day’ along with St John Vianney's Feast Day. Grandparents and special friends are invited to join us for Mass in the Church beginning at 9.15am with Fr Justin. At 10.15am students and their grandparents/special friend will make there way to the classrooms and join in some activities with their grandchild/children. Morning tea will then follow at 11.00am in the Multi Purpose Room (MPR). 

The timetable for Tuesday 4th of August is as follows:

• 9.15am - 10.15am - Mass celebrated by Fr Justin 
• 10.15am - 11am Time in the classroom 

• 11am - 11.45am Morning Tea in the MPR

   

All children will go out to play and the Grandparents/Special Friends will gather in the MPR for Morning Tea. The PFA will provide morning tea for the Grandparents/Special Friends. We look forward to our many Grandparents / Special Friends  spending time here at St John Vianney’s. Please view the invitation below.

School Musical - Westall 66

A reminder that next Tuesday we have our first  whole school rehearsal for our school production. On this day, Students can wear their School Musical T-shirt with their sports uniform.

Prep 100 Days of School

Next Wednesday marks a very special occasion for our prep students.  It is their official 100 (really 101!) days of school celebration.  Well done to our Prep staff - Teachers and Learning Support Officers for such a successful start to our students' education at Primary school.  We will be acknowledging our Prep Students in assembly next Friday. 

Confirmation

The Confirmation candidates are in the process of preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.Next Tuesday, all of the Confirmation candidates are expected to attend the family workshop presented by Brittany Ford in the MPR. It begins at 7pm and concludes by 8pm. 

On Sunday the 2nd of August, candidates are required to attend the Commitment Mass @ 9am. If they are unable to attend on this day, they can attend a Confirmation Commitment Mass on Saturday evening (1st of August) at St Patrick's Mentone.

The Sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated on Sunday the 16th of August at 1pm in the St John Vianney Church.

School Fete - FRIDAY NOVEMBER 20th @ 3:30pm.

Our annual School Fete will be held on Friday the 20th of November this year from 3.30pm to 8pm.

If you are new to the school and haven’t been a part of the SJV Fete - now is the time to get involved.  The SJV fete is famous in this area, has been running for over 50 years annually and is the most wonderful community event.

As a parent, you will get the chance to learn new skills, hone skills you have, make new friends and enhance the enjoyment of your own child’s school experience. There are many jobs in the lead up, on the day and the day after.  All families need to be involved to make this a successful event.

School Closure Dates - Term 3

There will be two student free days this term:

• Friday 7th of August
• Monday 10th of August

Term 3 concludes on Friday 18th of September at 1pm TBC (early time due to building works)

MACS Care

As mentioned in our previous newsletters, each month we will be placing information in about the Victorian Child Safe Standards, which are a set of 11 minimum requirements that all organisations working with children must meet.

For the month of June, our focus is ’People working with children and young people are suitable and supported to reflect child safety and wellbeing values in practice.’’

2027 Enrolments 

Our Requests for School Tours continue. Enrolments for Prep 2027 are now open and we encourage all families to submit their applications as soon as possible. If you have a child or you know someone wanting to tour schools for their child, please encourage them to book a school tour by contacting Nicole in our front office. 

Uniform Shop

Our Uniform shop is open every Monday at 3.15pm for sales. If you cant make it at that time, pop into the office and fill in an order form.

Second Hand Uniforms are coordinated by one of our parents, Sahara. Please log on to Brisbane Terrace SJV Secondhand Uniform on Facebook. Sahara will approve you joining the group and you can access second hand sales through this group.

Reminders

• The next school assembly will be on Friday 31st of July @ 3pm in the MPR 

• Dogs - Please note that for the safety and wellbeing of all members of our community, no dogs are permitted inside the school grounds and they must not be left unattended tied up at the gates. Adult supervision and holding of the leash is so important around vulnerable places such as schools.  We love dogs but we do have to take care of all members of our community.

• Bikes and Scooters - Please walk bikes and scooters when moving through the school grounds.

• Punctuality - It is expected that all students are to be at school by no later than 8.45am and not any time up to 9am. From 8.45am to 9am is crucial for students to get themselves organised, start the day with Meditation, prayer, take the roll and ready to commence their day promptly. Formal lessons begin at 9am. Any child who arrives at or after 9am is to be signed in at the office by a parent/guardian. I ask all parents to make sure that you adhere to these times.
