Inquiry Learning         

Each term, every year level learns a different topic as part of their inquiry learning. Below is a summary of the topic they will be covering and an overview of what they will be learning.

Prep 

Friendship and Fairness

This term, our Prep students will be diving into an inquiry unit called "Friendship and Fairness," which introduces early concepts of social justice. Together, we will explore what it means to be a kind friend, how to share and take turns, and how we can make our classroom a fair and welcoming place for everyone. Through storybooks, role-play, and group discussions, the children will learn to recognize different feelings, practice inclusive play, and develop simple problem-solving strategies for when disagreements arise. It is a wonderful foundation for building their social skills and helping them understand how their choices can positively impact our school community. 

Year 1/2

Social Justice - Celebrating Differences

The big idea in Inquiry this term is “Social Justice - Celebrating Differences”. This unit of work will focus on developing an appreciation of multicultural Australia. Students will learn to embrace different foods, games, music, and traditions from cultures around the world. They will identify how to respect those who sound, look, think and act differently to themselves and understand that we are all different. 

We are going to look specifically at Italy, India, China, and Nigeria. If you or someone you know has first-hand experience with cultures from these countries or other countries, we’d greatly appreciate you letting any of the Year 1/2 teachers know, as they would love anyone to come in to showcase their knowledge. 

Year 3/4

Someone Else's Shoes

This term, our inquiry topic focuses on social justice and understanding people who live with a disability. Students will investigate the organisations and aids that support people with disabilities, and explore what daily life can be like for those living with a disability. Along the way, they will think about what makes rules and laws fair, and why fairness matters in our community. A key part of this unit is appreciating the flexible thinking and courage shown by people with disabilities, and using their stories as inspiration to set and achieve goals of their own. By the end, students will be able to use their understanding of social justice to advocate for people in their community and recognise rules and laws as a way of creating fairness for everyone. 

Year 5/6 

Social Justice

Students will focus on ethics and the rights of children. They will learn about the biggest problems facing children around the world. Students will work in groups to prepare and deliver a slideshow presentation encouraging people to support an aid agency.

Mathletics      

Congratulations to Charlie McWilliams 1/2KK, who has received the Student of the Week award for Mathletics. Charlie put in an amazing, consistent effort, therefore receiving 5 certificates at assembly! As this was the first assembly since Week 9 of  Term 2, she obtained one certificate for each week! Well done, Charlie, and keep up your great efforts!
