Principal's Report

It has been a busy couple of weeks as always at Whitehorse Primary School with Hooptime, Interschool Sports, Cross Country, Fire Education Program, National Simultaneous Reading Time, Reconciliation Week and lots more as highlights!

Open Night

Our Open Night on Thursday 21 May was a tremendous success, and our school was absolutely buzzing with excitement. There was so much for visitors to explore and enjoy across our classrooms, specialist learning spaces and in our Kitchen. We had a great turnout of current families, as well as many prospective families interested in enrolling in 2027.

It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our school, celebrate our unique culture and connect with our community. I am incredibly proud of our students and staff and grateful for the support of our families and volunteers. Thank you to everyone who came along. We hope you enjoyed the night as much as we did!

Staffing Update

We are saying goodbye and happy retirement to two of our long serving staff at Whitehorse.

Paul Merriweather was at Springview Primary School prior to the merger and then at Whitehorse Primary School he was a classroom, PE , Music, and STEM teacher. He also most recently supported many of our students through small group tutoring.

Carole Norton was at Nunawading Primary School prior to the merger and then at Whitehorse Primary School continued her role as Education Support whilst also keeping both the library and Questacon running smoothly.

Both Carole and Paul have given many, many years of service to the Education Department and supported so many children on their primary school journeys. You are both truly valued by our staff and school community and will very much be missed.

This week we also farewell Evan as he moves to a full time Technical Support role at Bundoora Secondary College. Evan has been an asset to our school community since beginning with us. We will miss Evan’s kindness, support and technical skills.

We warmly welcome Sophie Nguyen who will take over from Evan in the Technical Support role as of next week. Sophie comes highly recommended for her approachable, enthusiastic manner as well as her skills in managing a range of devices in a primary school setting.

Monash Counselling Program

I would like to thank Rowena Howe who has completed her Counselling Placement at Whitehorse this semester. Rowena, who is also a trained secondary school teacher has supported a number of students within our school through individual counselling sessions and made a great impact on the wellbeing of those she worked with. We will miss Rowena and wish her all the best for her future career.

We are currently working through the process to appoint a new student counsellor. It is hoped that our Counselling Program will resume prior to the end of this term.

Foundation Families Feedback Session

I am looking forward to meeting with our current Foundation families to celebrate and reflect on the first semester of primary school on Friday 19 June at 9:00am in our school Kitchen.

This session will be an opportunity to provide feedback to our leadership team and share your experiences around the transition to school, school processes, communication, wellbeing, learning, and community connections throughout your first six months at our school. We are excited to work together to continue to strengthen our approach at Whitehorse Primary School and shape our 2027 Transition program.

See you there!

Reminders:

A reminder that next Monday is a Public Holiday for the King’s Birthday. Enjoy the long weekend and we look forward to seeing you back for the last stretch of Term 2. Hard to believe there are only 16 school days left before our first semester of 2026 is done!
