Mt Maria College is gearing up to host the “Class Dismissed. Volume Up.” edition of Rockin’ the Suburbs, as we approach the conclusion of the 2026 school year. These all-ages music events have recently been featured by 7news, as a growing hub for live all-ages music. Happening on Friday 13th November, 5:30pm–9:00pm at the Gaythorne Bowls Club. The event showcases an exciting lineup of emerging bands, including Marist College Ashgrove’s own student group, The Dysfunktionals.

The Dysfunktionals features four dedicated Year 10 musicians (Morgan Jones, Luke Smith, Sam Warren, Lucas Weigl) who will take the stage alongside a selection of 2026 homegrown bands from Mt Maria College, and a number of other local schools.
With great music, a vibrant atmosphere and a sausage sizzle on offer, it promises to be a fantastic night out for the community and a wonderful opportunity to support young artists in a supportive all-ages environment.

Marist College Ashgrove alumni Special Features (2021 Old Boys Zac Carr, Jeremy Sankey, Alex Smith, and guitarist Karissa Liu) have recently been announced as a support act for the Powderfinger Reunion Show at the Brisbane Showgrounds on Friday, 10 December. This performance opportunity is a reflection of their hard work and dedication to original music and is a testament to their well-deserved success, with several of their original songs recently receiving airtime on Triple J's national radio network. These old boys were all actively involved in both the classroom Music program and the College’s co-curricular Music program, and are proud representatives of the thriving music culture for which Marist College Ashgrove is renowned. The Marist College Ashgrove community wishes Special Features every success with this exciting opportunity and beyond.
“If Special Features haven’t been on your radar...get behind them. Delivering an unapologetic barrage of raw, heavy, and intense alt-rock, they also weave uniquely local stories into the fold to make for a boundary-bending take on the genre. It’s something special, and the best way to soak it in is to be in the room.” - GRAIN Magazine, 2025.

Next Tuesday afternoon, 10 November, Marist musicians will take to the stage to showcase the wonderful progress they have made throughout the year in their individual and small-group instrumental music lessons.
Studio Concerts provide a fantastic opportunity for students to share their musical talents while developing valuable performance skills through solo and ensemble repertoire. Performances will be held across a range of venues, including the Experimental Theatre and Green Room in the Draney Theatre Complex, as well as the Blue Room and Annexe in the Music Centre.
Music begins at 3:30pm, and families and friends are invited to roam between venues and enjoy the variety of performances on offer as students demonstrate what they have been working on throughout the year.
A reminder to all participating students that this is the final week to lock in repertoire selections with your music teacher. Students with any questions are encouraged to visit Music Reception or contact Mrs Wasserman.
We look forward to welcoming many members of our community next Tuesday to support and celebrate the achievements of our talented young musicians.
