News from the Rowing Sheds

Mr Andrew Pinelli, Rowing Coordinator

As we move into spring, there’s a lot more activity at the Rowing Sheds.

SMC Year 6 – Try Rowing

This Friday 12 September, our current Year 6 students will visit the Rowing Sheds and have the opportunity to try rowing. We’re very fortunate to have many of our Open Rowers generously giving their time to assist, alongside our coaches and supportive parents. Check out the SMC socials to see our students enjoying the experience!

Registration

Registration for the upcoming season is now open via the College’s Clipboard app. If you’d like your daughter to join our successful Rowing Program, please ensure she is signed up before the end of this term. Parents/carers must register and pay through Clipboard and complete the form that is linked.

Gym training

A dedicated group of students has continued to build strength and fitness over winter by attending gym sessions. Payments for these sessions are now due via Qkr!

Hoodies

Details about the selected hoodie and ordering process will be sent to all rowing families this week. Hoodie orders must be paid for before they can be placed. The anticipated delivery date is early November, ensuring hoodies get plenty of wear this season.

On-water training

We’re hoping for better weather this Sunday so we can get back out on the water. Before-school training will begin early next term, with details to be shared before the end of this term once registrations are finalised.

Season calendar

All rowing families should have received the calendar for the upcoming season. It includes key dates and information such as Pasta Nights, Canteen Duty and the regattas each age group will participate in. The official Rowing Tasmania calendar can be accessed at the link here.

Volunteers needed

We’re always in need of parent and carer volunteers to help ensure a safe and enjoyable rowing program. Looking ahead, we need support with:

  • Power boat driving
  • Breakfast Club
  • Pasta Nights
  • Canteen duty
  • Fundraising activities

All volunteers must complete the online Child Safety module and submit their WWVP Card to SMC. If you haven’t completed the module, please contact me for the link.

Fundraising

We’ll soon need to invest in new rowing shells – an expensive but essential purchase. We’re looking for a small group of volunteers to help organise fundraising activities on behalf of our rowers. If you’re willing to assist with this important role, please let me know by emailing me at apinelli@smc.tas.edu.au.
