Year 9 students retreat into reflection

During Weeks 5, 6 and 7 of this term, our Year 9 students participated in their annual Retreat Days in Richmond. This year’s theme, 'People on a Journey' explored the idea that life is a journey, with hills and valleys, good weather and bad. Students reflected on the companions who walk alongside them, especially considering the presence of God throughout their lives.

We also delved into the concept of pilgrimage, a special kind of journey that holds particular significance in this Jubilee year. We were privileged to hear from Leanne Prichard, who shared her powerful experience of walking the 40-day Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in Spain. Inspired by her story, we embarked on our own mini pilgrimage to St John’s Church.

There, we visited the Old School House, where the nine Presentation Sisters who founded St Mary’s College taught for 18 months (1866–67) while the College was under construction. We also paused at the monument dedicated to the Presentation Sisters, taking time to reflect on our connection to these courageous women and their enduring legacy.

Thank you to our Youth Minister, Belle Young, for facilitating these days, with the support of our Life and Faith teachers.

Lunchtimes are for pottering about!

A group of Senior School students rolled up their sleeves and got their hands dirty last week for our first lunchtime pottery workshop.

The session kicked off with a spin, with Year 9/10 ceramics enthusiasts taking shelter from the rain to get hands-on with clay, learning essential techniques like wedging, centering and forming shapes.

And it didn’t take long for them to find their rhythm at the wheel, thanks to the expert guidance of teacher, Miss Eloise Kirk.

We can’t wait to see what creative magic they’ll bring to their next session!

Work Experience | The latest from the job front

Lucinda Washington in Year 10 recently spent five fascinating days with HWL Ebsworth Lawyers in Hobart. She has this to say about the experience:

"Working inside a law office gave me a proper insight as to what happens behind the scenes in a law firm. I was welcomed by all the people who worked there, and I was given so many different opportunities to learn several different aspects about the job. I was given lots of information that grew my understanding of what a lawyer actually does on a daily basis and the pathway that many people take after school. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and it broadened my understanding and opened up a new interest."
