What's been happening at Richy Dubs this fortnight...

Smile squad

The dental team from Smile Squad have begun seeing students for dental check-ups this week. If you have not yet returned the form giving consent for your child to be seen by them, it is not too late. Paper forms are available from the office, or you can use the QR code on the relevant Compass post to give consent.

Lunar New Year

On Monday the 16th of February families are invited to join us on the soccer pitch to celebrate Lunar New Year with a lion dance performance. The Lunar New Year lion dance is a vibrant tradition performed to scare away evil spirits (specifically the mythical monster Nian), dispel bad luck, and usher in prosperity, strength, and good fortune for the coming year. The performance, featuring loud drums and, acrobatic moves, also serves to, welcome positive, energy and bless our school for the upcoming year.

Students are encouraged to wear red on this day. Wearing red during the wider Lunar New Year celebrations, is a deeply rooted tradition designed to attract good fortune, joy, and prosperity, while simultaneously warding off evil spirits and negative energy. The colour is associated with vitality, celebration, and the fire element.

Hats and sun safety

It is a school expectation that all students will wear a SunSmart hat while outside during Terms 1 and 4. As they will be outside during recess, lunch and PE classes this adds up to quite a lot of time exposed to the sun across the day.

Unfortunately, many children are coming to school each day without a hat. When this happens, they will be expected to spend time undercover instead of playing where they like to in the playground.

Please ensure your child has a hat and that it comes to school with them each day. Children are also encouraged to bring sunscreen and apply it throughout the day as required.
