St Roch’s School theme 2026:
"United in Faith, Sharing the Light"
Dear Families,
Welcome to Issue 2 for 2026 of our iNewsletter! We hope this newsletter continues to keep you up to date with all the news, events and learning that happens at St Roch's.
Child Safety
Our commitment to Child Safety and ensuring the wellbeing of every student is our highest priority. Last Thursday, The Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA), reviewed our school to determine whether having regard to the prescribed minimum standards the school has attained and continues to attain the standards required for registration. We are super proud of the result after a lengthy audit that showed tha St Roch's is compliant and continues to attain the standards required for registration. We acknowledge the support from Father Gallacher, Melbourne Archdiocese of Catholic Schools - MACS personnel, VCEA personnel, the School Advisory Council and of course our amazing staff at St Roch's. Nadine and I are extremely pleased and delighted with the results.
Beginning of Year Mass and Commissioning of St Roch's 'Mini Vinnies'
A lovely way to come together as a school by celebrating Mass and praying together as we embrace our theme, 'United in Faith, Sharing the Light'. Our staff are committed to their profession and to the education and wellbeing of your children. Congratulations to the 2026 Mini Vinnies cohort. We look forward to seeing your service this year. Thank you to Father Gallacher, Anthony & Patrick, Francesca and Louise Bolton for coordinating.
P&F Welcome Evening
Oh what a night! Thank you to Jess M, Jess N, Tahnee, Dave & Will and their team of support for a superb evening of celebrating the beginning of the year. As Dave acknowledged, the P&F Committee contribute to bringing the community together and it was evident on this night. It was wonderful to see many new and current parents attend as well as our incredible staff! We look forward to many more events together this year. A special mention to the Bristow family for their contributions to the evening.
The Gaga Pit!
Our students are extremely grateful to all who have contributed to the installation of this Gaga Pit. We thank our Maintenance group - Marty & Brendan for installing it and our students and families, past and present for this additional feature to our playground. A special thanks to Marjie King for teaching our students the game and providing the rules so everyone can play fairly and safely.
Shrove Tuesday & Ash Wednesday
As we move into this week, our school community gathers to observe two significant milestones in the liturgical calendar: Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday. Today, we are enjoying the joyful tradition of Shrove Tuesday—a time for celebration and, of course, pancakes—marking the final day before the Lenten season begins. This leads us directly into the solemnity of Ash Wednesday, where the receiving of ashes serves as a profound reminder of our commitment to spiritual growth. Throughout the next 40 days of Lent, I invite our students and families to join us in a journey of reflection, prayer, and "giving back," as we seek to better ourselves in preparation for the hope of Easter.
We hope to see many families at out Ash Wednesday Liturgy on Wednesday 18 February at 2.45pm at St Roch's Church.
Student Leaders for 2026
We are grateful to our Year 6 Student Leaders who are embracing leadership at St Roch's! Congratulations to all our SRC students who have been selected as SRC students this Semester who will be supported by our SRC Leaders and Year 6 School Captains and Leaders to implement initiatives and spread the kindness we advocate throughout our school.
