Assistant Principal News

As I have been out in the yard in the mornings, I have noticed the daylight is getting shorter and I am sensing that the end of the Melbourne summer is approaching. The change in season always brings a renewed focus and rhythm to our school days. I have been incredibly proud of the way our students have settled so well into their school life this year. Classrooms are calm, focused and full of enthusiasm for learning. Such an environment is a wonderful reflection of the work our staff are deeply committed to in alignment with the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model, particularly the Element of Teaching, ‘Enabling Learning’. By establishing and maintaining consistent routines, clear expectations and predictable structures, our teachers create safe and supportive learning spaces where students know what to expect and can fully engage in their learning. This consistency not only maximises valuable learning time, but also strengthens students’ confidence, independence and sense of belonging within the classroom.

We are excited to be hosting our first Curriculum Information Session of the year for our Prep parents on Thursday 19 March. Our Prep teacher, Mrs Curlewis, alongside our Learning Specialist, Onda Sensei, and our Bilingual Leader, Morita Sensei, will be leading this session. The evening will provide valuable information about the CPS curriculum and practical, helpful strategies to support your child’s learning at home. This session will also provide an opportunity for parents to ask questions and gain a deeper understanding of the learning experiences their children engage in each day. Please note that a Curriculum Information Session for all parents will also be held in Term 2.
On Thursday 19 February, we held our Parent Wellbeing Information Morning Tea and were delighted to see such a large group of parents attend. Mrs Weson and I shared information about our wellbeing approach at our school, including our new school values and how these were unpacked with students during our Start-up Program. We also spoke about Respectful Relationships, the Zones of Regulation, School Wide Positive Behaviour Support, Positive Classroom Management Strategies and the Student Support Services. These approaches work together to create a consistent and proactive framework that supports students socially, emotionally and behaviourally, ensuring they are ready to learn. It was wonderful to engage in meaningful conversations and to hear thoughtful questions and reflections from our families. Thank you to all the parents who attended; we truly appreciate your partnership and the shared commitment to supporting the wellbeing and growth of every child in our care. Respectful Relationships, the Zones of Regulation, School Wide Positive Behaviour Support, Positive Classroom Management Strategies and the Student Support Services
On a personal note, since last year I have been undertaking professional learning to further develop my leadership knowledge and skills. As part of this course, I will be participating in an internship program at one of our network schools. While I will still be available to our staff via phone and email, I am genuinely excited about this valuable opportunity to learn alongside colleagues in another school setting and to gain insight into their practices on their school grounds. I look forward to returning to CPS in Term 2 with an enhanced leadership perspective and a broadened understanding that will continue to support our school community. I will also briefly return during Week 9 to assist with the Year 3/4 camp, which I am very much looking forward to.
Until next term,
Miharu Morioka
