Grade 5/6 - Lo Spazio
This term, our Grade 5/6 students have been exploring lo spazio (space) in Italian! As part of their learning, students were challenged to create their own planet and describe it using simple Italian sentences and modelled sentence starters. They used their growing vocabulary to describe their planet’s appearance, colours and features. Some students also chose to share interesting facts about planets and demonstrate what they have learned so far.

Lo spazio ha nove pianeti che si chiamano Mercurio, Venere, la Terra, Marte, Giove, Saturno, Urano, Nettuno e Plutone. Giove e’ grande, Plutone e’ piccolo, Venere e’ caldo e Nettuno e’ freddo. (Azariah)

Science Week - Seeds of Science
Year 3/4 - Seeds Go Pop
Last week was Science Week and students in Year 3/4 conducted an experiment to simulate one way that seeds are dispersed. They used a balloon to imitate a seed pod, the balloon was filled with confetti (imitating the seeds), and blown up. They then used a pin to burst the balloon and watch the confetti/seeds spread around the room. Our discussion also covered other ways that seeds are dispersed such as birds, animals and wind.
Foundation - Make a Cress Head
The Foundation students planted seeds to grow Cress. The students watched a video to understand the Lifecycle of a plant. They then decorated a plastic cup to grow their seeds in. In the cup they put cotton wool, water and the seeds. Students will place their cup in the sun in the classroom and watch as the seeds begin to sprout and grow. They will observe and document each day the changes they see.
MUSIC
Music making over the past few weeks has involved lots of singing, instrument playing and looking at how music helps tell a story to align with the Book Week theme of Symphony of Stories.
Foundation have used animal finger puppets to sing songs and 'talk' to their friends in music which they have enjoyed.
In the junior classes we have looked at a range of picture story books and The Story Orchestra books that weave traditional stories with classical music. The Year Two's loved the story 'In the Hall of the Mountain King' and enthusiastically used boomwhackers to play the music...which gets faster and more exciting!
During the past few weeks the Year 3/4's have loved creating their own music using technology on the website Chrome Music Lab. Students can work collaboratively using the shared piano function or shared splitters for the headphones.
All students have enjoyed using the boomwhackers - they are a great invention - they look like colourful tubes but each is a different size making them tuned intruments when hit on the floor, a chair or the carpet. It is lots of fun!
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
This term in PE our students have been working to develop their skills in netball and athletics. Earlier this week our Year 4-6 students attended the district athletics carnival, at which our students displayed great effort and willingness to attempt new things. Two of our students have qualified to represent our school at the divisional finals after fantastic performances in their respective events - what a result, well done!
