A Piping Season to Remember!
Year 7 student Maisie Nield has finished a fantastic season competing in the Victorian Pipers Association (VPA) Novice solo piping competitions across Victoria.
After a season of strong and consistent performances, Maisie finished an impressive 2nd in the VPA Novice Piper of the Year standings.
To top off an already wonderful season, Maisie was selected to receive a set of bagpipes, a special encouragement award presented to a promising developing piper. Rather than being awarded for a single competition result, the recognition reflects Maisie's commitment, development and potential as a young piper making it a particularly special way to finish the season.
Maisie's achievement is a wonderful example of where learning the bagpipes can lead! Students at King's College have the opportunity to learn through our Pipes and Drums program, with free tuition lessons available at school. Beginners start by learning on a practice chanter, which is the only initial cost, before progressing towards playing a full set of bagpipes.
Whether it's performing at school and community events, joining a pipe band or even taking the step into solo competitions, learning the pipes can open the door to some amazing opportunities.
Congratulations, Maisie, on a fantastic season we look forward to hearing those new pipes around the College!

VM Callaghan's Visit
A big thank you to Scott and the team at Callaghan Motors for welcoming our VM students and providing such an informative and hands-on session.
Students were given a tour of the showroom and service areas and had the opportunity to learn more about the different careers and roles available within the automotive industry. Scott also took students under the bonnet to explain some of the basics of car ownership, including checking the oil and water levels.
The students also enjoyed learning practical skills, such as how to change a tyre — an important skill that will be useful as they move towards greater independence and car ownership.
It was a fantastic session, and we greatly appreciate Scott taking the time to share his knowledge and experience with our students. Thank you, Callaghan Motors!

Clay Target Shooting
On Thursday, August 27 our clay target shooting team participated in the South West Zone School Students Clay Target Competition in Noorat. This is one of the largest and toughest zones to advance to the state Finals.
In the last three years, we have had a few students go well and have the opportunity to represent King's at the state final in Echuca. Izzy, Year 9, shot an equal personal best to place third at Noorat and earn a spot at the state finals.
Congratulations, Izzy, and good luck for the state final on Monday 7 September, "You Got This One"

Trivia Night
As a result of the generosity of some incredible community businesses and individuals from the broader King's family and the Warrnambool community, the Trivia Night held on Friday the 21st of August was able to raise an incredible current total of $9,000 to help do more research into children's cancer and support families affected by cancer.
This total number of dollars may still increase with possible further donations in the coming days. A large portion of this total was from Ollie, year 8, cutting his hair and donating proceeds to the same charity but a different arm that looks after the impacted families of cancer.
We sold out all the tables that night, with everyone who attended bringing great energy and enthusiasm. All in all, it was a fun and very successful night.
A massive thank you to the following businesses, who were sponsors for the trivia night:
- Simon Knee Building
- Gleeson Real Estate
- Domino's
- Asian Station Grocery
- Fix N Chips
- Sugar High Confectionery
Thank you to the businesses that donated: Subway, Spartan, Sugar High Confectionary, Bojangles, Flying Horse, Domino's, Toyworld, Somer Toprak Optometrist, Harry's Fish and Chips, Warrnambool Paddle Boats, Capitol Cinema Warrnambool, All Seasons Nursery, Beaches Cafe and Bar, Warrnambool Community Garden, Gallo Bakery, Geelong Football Club, Brumby's Bakery, Dirty Angel Comedy and Coles.
Once again, thank you, from King’s College, the Year 11 Cohort and the Warrnambool Table Tennis Association

VCE Formal
A Night of Food, Fellowship, and Freedom: The VCE Formal!
On Saturday, August 29th, we had the absolute pleasure of celebrating our incredible VCE students at the King's College VCE Formal. It was a spectacular evening filled with laughter, dancing, and memories that will undoubtedly last a lifetime.
Here is a look back at what made the night so special!
A Magical Transformation
The SS Pentagon and Year 7 Classroom were completely transformed into an amazing event space, thanks to a dedicated team of staff led by Amy Newton. A massive thank you to Amy for her hard work and vision in bringing this to life! We also want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff and students who generously volunteered their time after school on Friday and throughout the day on Saturday to help set up. Your efforts were truly appreciated.
Highlights of the Evening
Once the doors opened, the students were treated to a night of VIP experiences:
- Gourmet Catering: Everyone enjoyed a fantastic menu catered by the wonderful Jo Aitken.
- Red Carpet Glamour: Students arrived in style and captured the moment with a red carpet photoshoot.
- Impromptu Entertainment: Esther Wakim and Toby Pierce took over as impromptu hosts, entertaining the crowd with karaoke, jokes, and what was probably the longest lead-up to a punchline (or lack thereof) in King's College history (if you know, you know!).
Special Guests & Unforgettable Music
The VCE cohort was thrilled to be joined by a few special guests, personally invited by the students. It was wonderful to see Mr. Duncan Robertson, Mrs. Naomi O'Brien, and the ever-faithful Mr. Michael and Mrs. Lyndell Tucker. The students' invitation to the Tuckers was a beautiful testament to the fact that their years of dedicated service to King's College have certainly not gone unnoticed by past and present students.
When it was time to hit the dance floor, the music was provided by none other than DJ Dave Tomkins. Dave, who coincidentally works full-time in the Junior School when he isn't busy being a DJ (and yes, he is available for weekend bookings!), generously brought his own speakers and lights, working with the students to ensure they had an absolute blast dancing to their favorite tunes.
A Final Thank You
Finally, a huge thank you goes out to the VCE Formal Committee, comprised of our hardworking Year 11 and Year 12 students. They put in hours of time and effort to ensure that student voice was built into every single stage of the planning process. You created a truly phenomenal night!
