New Sandpit toys

Our Junior School sandpit has been given a fun new addition! The children are loving exploring and creating with our new diggers and trucks. From digging deep holes to building roads, transporting sand and working together on big construction projects, there has been plenty of imaginative play happening.

It has been wonderful to see the children using creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills as they play and build together. We look forward to seeing what they construct next!

Prep

What a wonderful couple of weeks we have had in Prep!

The Preps have had an absolute blast at their swimming lessons over the past two weeks! It has been fantastic to see everyone grow in confidence and show such enthusiasm for trying new things in the pool. There have been lots of smiles, splashes and laughter along the way! An overall favourite amongst the Preps was diving for the sinkies and playing fun games such as Peanuts. A big thank you to all of the parent helpers we've had across the two weeks, we couldn't have done it without you! Thank you so much!

Back in the classroom, we have been getting creative! Last week, the Preps created some wonderful weather artworks, experimenting with oil pastels and watercolour paints to produce some bright and beautiful pieces.

We have also been very busy preparing for Father’s Day. The children have loved creating special artworks of their dads and other important family members, putting lots of care and effort into making something just for them.

We wish all of our wonderful dads, grandads and father figures a very happy and special Father’s Day this Sunday. We hope you feel very loved and appreciated!

Year 1

What an action-packed fortnight it has been in Year 1!

Last Friday was a highlight as we wrapped up Book Week with our costume dress-up day. The classroom was filled with favourite book characters, and the children brought so much enthusiasm to the celebration. A massive shout-out to our supportive parents for helping the children find costumes they felt comfortable and excited to wear. We are so blessed by our school library and love borrowing wonderful, colourful books each week to spark our imaginations.

Alongside the dress-up fun, we have just completed our intensive two-week swimming program. Our Year 1 students handled the change in routine absolute pros! They managed extra bags, juggling their school clothes, and adapting to daily schedule shifts without missing a beat. We are deeply grateful to the many helpers who joined us to read with the children while they waited for their turn on the bus; without your time and support, our days would not have run nearly as smoothly or organised.

It has certainly been a tiring two weeks, but we’ve turned our gratitude into creativity. This week, we enjoyed crafting handmade thank-you cards for our dedicated swimming instructors, parent helpers, and bus driver. We also spent time reflecting on our special dads and father figures in our lives, creating heartfelt gifts to show our appreciation. We are so thankful for the loving families God has placed us in.

Finally, we cannot let this week pass without sending a huge shout-out to our incredible Learning Support Staff. Their constant encouragement and assistance both in and out of the classroom keep our days bright and our learning moving forward.

Thank you to everyone who helped make these past two weeks such a memorable success!

Year 2

Year 2 enjoyed a warm and sunny morning exploring capacity and volume through hands-on water play!

The students tested different containers, making predictions and investigating how much water each one could hold. They compared amounts, experimented with filling and pouring, and discovered that containers of different shapes can hold similar amounts of water.

It was a fun and engaging way to put our maths learning into practice, with plenty of teamwork, curiosity and laughter along the way!

Year 3

What a Fortnight!

We’ve had such a great fortnight in Year 3! There has been lots happening in our classroom, and the children have been busy learning, experimenting, reading, swimming and, of course, having a bit of fun along the way!

Book Week

We finished off our last fortnight with Book Week, and it was lovely to see the children come dressed as their favourite book characters. There were some fantastic costumes and lots of very excited children!

During the week, we read all of the books in the Picture Book of the Year section and had lots of discussions about which ones we liked best, our favourite characters and what made each book special. We then voted for our favourite. The winning book was When I Was a Giant, and we had five children correctly guess the winning book!

Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee

Congratulations to these two little superstars who were our Year 3 class champions in the Prime Minister’s Spelling Bee!

Everyone who participated did such a wonderful job, and I was so proud of every student for having a go and giving it their best effort. While we haven’t had anyone progress through to the next round this time, I think they are all absolute champions!

International Rock Paper Scissors Day

We also had a little celebration of International Rock Paper Scissors Day! The children were fascinated to learn that this simple game actually has a very long history, dating back hundreds of years, and that rock paper scissors has even been used to settle decisions in some very serious situations - including helping to make decisions during multi-million and even billion-dollar business deals!

Naturally, we couldn't learn all of that without having our own Year 3 Rock Paper Scissors Tournament! There was some very serious competition, some impressive strategies and a few very excited celebrations. Congratulations to Abigail, who took out the Year 3 championship!

Maths – How Long Does It Take?

In Maths, we have been learning about duration of time and, in particular, getting a feel for how long different amounts of time actually are. The children worked with timers and partners to time each other doing all sorts of different activities. We were particularly interested in seeing whether our estimates of a second, a minute or several minutes were actually accurate! It was a really fun way to develop a better understanding of time.

Science – Properties of Matter

We have also continued exploring properties of matter and conservation of matter in Science. We made our own lava lamps and were fascinated by watching what happened inside the bottles. The children were particularly amazed when the chemical reaction produced gas which then inflated the balloon sitting on top of the bottle! There were lots of excited faces as we watched the reaction unfold.

Swimming

And, of course, we have spent the last two weeks at the pool! The Year 3's have been absolute champions with their swimming lessons. They have handled themselves so well, listened to instructions and represented our class beautifully. The staff at Splash Factory have even commented on their outstanding behaviour, which is something we are incredibly proud of!

It really has been a great fortnight in Year 3. The children have worked hard, tried new things, had lots of fun and continued to show just how capable they are. Well done, Year 3!

Year 4

Year 4’s Wonderful Fortnight of Learning!

Year 4 has had a wonderful, and slightly tiring fortnight filled with lots of learning and exciting activities!

We have been incredibly proud of the effort and enthusiasm students have shown during swimming. Everyone has worked hard to develop their skills and confidence in the water, and it has been fantastic to see the progress they have all made.

Our assembly performance was also a very special highlight! The students did a beautiful job and were an absolute joy to watch as they enthusiastically gave their praise to Jesus and enjoyed every moment on stage.

In the classroom, Year 4 mathematicians have been working hard to develop their understanding of mixed numbers, as well as learning how to add and subtract fractions.

They have done an amazing job tackling these new concepts and showing great persistence in their learning.

It has certainly been a busy fortnight, but Year 4 should be very proud of everything they have achieved!

Year 5

Year 5 have really enjoyed our swimming lessons at Splash Factory over the last two weeks.

It had been wonderful to see the improvement in skills that the regular daily lessons give the students.  The wonderful instructors provide the students with innovative lessons and specific instruction on how to improve their strokes and swimming style.

During the lesson, the students work very consistently and vigorously, swimming lap upon lap, aiming to impress their swim teachers with how well they have listened and taken on board what they have been told.

I would be very surprised if the students were not totally exhausted by the time we have our last lesson.  They have literally swum kilometres!!!!
