Year 3 and Year 4

Year 3

English

Year 3 have travelled back in time to Ancient Greece during our literacy lessons! We have been exploring fascinating ancient artefacts and discovering what they can tell us about the people, culture and everyday life of Ancient Greece. Students have loved becoming history detectives, using clues from artefacts to make predictions, ask questions and share their ideas. It has been a fantastic way to bring our literacy learning to life!

Maths

Year 3 have been busy learning all about time! We have been exploring the differences between analogue and digital clocks, practising reading the time and converting between the two. Students have enjoyed becoming time detectives and challenging themselves to work out different times throughout the day.

Religion

In Year 3, we have been learning about the Assumption of Mary and exploring why this special feast day is important to Catholics. Students have been discovering more about Mary’s life, her faith and her role as the mother of Jesus. Through our discussions and activities, we are reflecting on Mary’s trust in God and the example she provides for us.

Year 4

Maths

In Maths this week, our Year 4 students have been learning about area and perimeter. Students have been exploring the difference between measuring the space inside a shape (area) and measuring the distance around the outside (perimeter). They have been using practical activities, grids and problem-solving tasks to calculate the area and perimeter of different shapes, while developing their understanding of measurement and mathematical reasoning.

Literacy

This week, our Year 4 students have begun an exciting new novel study on Michael Morpurgo’s Kensuke’s Kingdom. Through the story, students will explore themes of adventure, friendship, courage and resilience while developing their reading comprehension and vocabulary. As we journey alongside Michael and Kensuke, students will also engage in rich discussions, make predictions and connections, and respond to the text through a range of literacy activities. We are looking forward to discovering where this adventure takes us!

Topic

This week in Topic, our Year 4 students have been learning about the water cycle and the continuous movement of water around our planet. Students have been exploring the processes of evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection, and investigating how the Sun provides the energy needed to drive the water cycle. Through discussions and hands-onactivities, students are developing an understanding of how water changes state and moves between the atmosphere, land and waterways.

Religion

In R.E our focus has been Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Mary MacKillop. Students are exploring the significant roles both women played in the lives of others and the ways their faith, courage and commitment continue to inspire people today.

We are learning about Mary’s role in Jesus’ life, including her trust in God, her love and care for Jesus, and her willingness to say “yes” to God’s plan. Students are also discovering the life of Saint Mary MacKillop, exploring her dedication to educating children, supporting people in need and living out her faith through service. Through stories, discussion and reflection, students are considering how the example of Mary and Mary MacKillop can inspire us to show kindness, courage, compassion, service and faith in our own lives.
