What a productive and wonderfully busy fortnight we have had at St Francis Xavier, it is hard to believe that we are more than half way through Term 3!

From the high engagement in our classrooms to the exciting extracurricular opportunities across all year levels, our school community is certainly thriving.

Watching our students embrace every learning experience with curiosity, kindness and enthusiasm fills me with immense pride. Here is a snapshot of the fantastic highlights and achievements from the past two weeks.

The Feast of the Assumption of Mary

A fortnight ago, our school community gathered with great joy to celebrate the Feast of

 the Assumption of our Lady. During our assembly, we reflected on the profound belief that Mary was taken, body and soul, into the glory of Heaven at the conclusion of her time on earth. Our Year 3 students led the service with such grace, reminding us all of Mary’s steadfast trust in God and the beautiful promise of eternal life that we hold dear.

Through our shared moments of prayerful reflection, we honoured Mary as a beacon of love, faith and devotion, and a guiding light for every member of our school. It was a beautiful way to end the school week. 

Book Week Parade

Last Wednesday, our playground was alive with the vibrant energy of countless characters as we celebrated the 2026 Book Week theme, "A Symphony of Stories." It was wonderful to see our students arrive in such imaginative and colourful costumes, each one worn with a magnificent smile. This special week serves as a beautiful reminder of the joy found in reading and the vital role literature plays in our learning journey. The excitement continues as Mrs Karevski has organised further engaging activities during library sessions, leading up to our much-anticipated incursion on Wednesday, September 2nd. Thank you to the parents and families who donated a new book at the Book Stall. 

Queenship of Mary Rosary Brunch

To celebrate the Feast of the Queenship of Mary, some of our school mothers and grandmothers gathered on Friday morning for a special morning of faith, fellowship and creativity organised by Miss Cindy. The group came together to pray the Holy Rosary, reflecting on Mary’s devotion and guidance, before rolling up their sleeves to craft beautiful, hand-beaded rosary decades to take home. The morning concluded with a lovely shared brunch, where laughter and heartfelt conversation flowed as our mums connected over their shared faith and love for our school community.

The 2026 Colour Fun Run

Last Monday, our 2026 Colour Fun Run officially began as brochures were sent home to

 assist every child in launching their individual profile pages. 

We are looking forward with great anticipation to our main event on Tuesday, 22nd September .

The generous contributions from student fundraising will be dedicated to installing a fantastic Moduplay playground structure, featuring slides and a versatile climbing frame. This addition to our Main Playground will offer wonderful opportunities for our students to explore, stay active and enjoy imaginative play. 

Our school community has already shown incredible spirit, bringing our current fundraising total to a fantastic $14,859.Well done to the students in KW, 3G, 3W, and 5G! These classes  earned an icy pole party reward for having the highest number of registered profile pages at the conclusion of the first week. The excitement is building for this Friday's afternoon assembly, where a member of our teaching staff will be slimed to celebrate surpassing our initial $10,000 milestone. We are all eagerly wondering which lucky teacher will take one for the team!

School Concert

The children have been busily preparing for our upcoming concert and things are coming together nicely. All costume notes have been released and we look forward to seeing the story of Peter Pan come to life. Concert tickets will be released via Try Booking next week. More information will follow. 

Tournament of the Minds

This coming Saturday, two dedicated teams of Stage 3 students will showcase their talents at the 2026 Tournament of the Minds competition held at UNSW. Over the past few weeks, the students have been diligently planning and rehearsing for their respective challenges within the 'STEM' and 'The Arts' categories. We are incredibly grateful to Ms Tsokas, Mr Tropeano and Ms MacMillan, who will be supporting our students at the tournament. Our sincere thanks go to these committed staff members for giving up their Saturday to provide such a wonderful opportunity for our students to excel and shine.

We wish both teams the very best of luck in their upcoming challenge.

Sydney Athletics Championships

All the best of luck to Stella, Sadie, Micah and Marquez as they prepare to represent our school community at the Sydney Athletics Championships this Friday at Homebush. To reach this prestigious level of competition is a truly remarkable feat, and we are incredibly proud of their dedication. We know they will compete with great spirit and give their absolute best on the track.

Sacrament of Confirmation

Our Year 6 students have been immersed in a period of prayerful and reverent preparation

 as they approach the Sacrament of Confirmation. Today, the candidates participated in a reflection day, further enriching the classroom sessions they have shared with Fr Richard. We extend our sincere gratitude to Fr Richard for his dedicated guidance and  support in preparing our students for this sacrament. We warmly invite our school community to keep these children in your prayers as they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on Friday evening.
