Book Week

What a wonderful Book Week we have had! Our students have enjoyed celebrating their favourite books and characters through a range of fun and engaging activities. From dressing up as much-loved book characters to sharing stories! It was a great celebration, and thank you to our families for supporting the celebrations and helping make Book Week such a special and memorable time for our students! Here are some photos of our great costumes!

Farm Excursion

Our students had a fantastic time on their recent farm excursion, learning all about cows! They enjoyed getting up close to the cows and discovering what life is like on a working farm. Students learned about what cows eat, how they are cared for, and the important role they play on a farm. They loved seeing the cows up close and asking questions about the animals. The students even got to see the cows be milked! It was a wonderful hands-on learning experience that brought our classroom learning to life and created lots of exciting memories for our students! A big THANK YOU to the Sandersons for inviting us to come along and see your farm, as well as for providing us with transportation and the time to teach and show us all these things! In our next Newsletter, we will share some reflections from the students on what they enjoyed most about seeing the cows! (Due to our excursion being at the end of Thursday before the long weekend, there was no time, so we will share next time :) )

Handwriting with our Quiet Critters

In Foundation, we have introduced Quiet Critters, which are little buddies that sit on our desk and help our work quietly. If we make a sound, they get scared and head back to their box. These cute little buddies helped our focus as we practised writing our letters to sit on the lines correctly and carefully.

Maths- Measurement

In Maths, we have been learning about measurement such as Long, Short, Tall, Heavy and light. The Foundations have been measuring and comparing different objects in the classroom and using measurement language to describe them. This week they have explored Capacity and discussed how full, half full or empty a container may be. They used water to measure and compare the different-sized capacities. 

Lexi- 100 Days of School

A BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Lexi on her 100 days of school! Lexi was away on a wonderful family holiday when we celebrated, so why not celebrate her another day! Well done, Lexi!

Inquiry- Farm Habitats

Last week the F/1/2's created some Farm habitats using natural materials and other hands-on materials! They each got a farm animal and had to think about what their animal needed to survive in their habitat! Here are some wonderful photos of their habitats that they created!

F/1/2 Melbourne Aquarium- 17th September

On Thursday 17th September, the F/1/2 students will be going to the Melbourne Aquarium, which pairs well with our inquiry unit about animals.

Students will need to be dropped off/picked up at Lilydale station, where we will catch the train in and out. 

Students will need to meet at Lilydale no later than 8:15 am, which allows time for the toilet before the train comes at 8:30 am. 

We will then head into the Aquarium and then spend some time at the Birrarung Marr Walk. We will get on the 2:30 pm train home and be ready to be collected at 3:30 pm at Lilydale Station. We are available to supervise children until 3:45 pm.

Meeting Place at Station- We will meet the students under the stairs on the right-hand side (where the parking is located). You can drop your child off and pick them up from here. You will need to sign in and out your children with Tilly or Bec. Please indicate via email closer to the date who your child is being dropped off/picked up by, so we know who to look out for.

We will be doing a lot of walking on the day, so students are welcome to wear sports uniform and runners. Closer to the date, we will assess the weather to see if we need coats. Students will only need to bring a small bag, drink bottle and their lunch. They will need to carry it with them on the day. If your child has medication at school, we will bring that with us.

Unfortunately, we have been quoted $1000 for a bus to take us there and back, and that isn't feasible for us to be able to have this experience. In the past, we have asked parents for their thoughts on dropping/picking up at Lilydale station. Parents are happy to do this once a year. We are hoping a 4-week notice will enable all our students to attend.
