Junior School Update

With Mrs Fiona Clark

Dear Families,

The past fortnight of term has been full of exciting learning experiences, sporting opportunities, and celebrations across the Junior School. It has been wonderful to see students embracing new challenges, demonstrating positive attitudes, and supporting one another in all aspects of school life.

Tri-Games Sport

A highlight of the fortnight was the first round of the Year 5-6 Tri-Games competition, where our students competed in netball and soccer against Cobram Primary School. Cobram AGS students were highly competitive throughout the day, showcasing their developing skills and determination. Most importantly, they demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, encouraging teammates and showing respect to opponents. The students represented the school with pride and had a great deal of fun while participating in the competition.

Chapel Focus: Trying Your Best

Ms Doyle's recent Chapel message focused on the importance of trying your best and giving your all in everything you do. This theme has been particularly relevant as we prepare for the upcoming Junior Athletics Carnival on Wednesday 19 August. The message encouraged students to focus on effort, perseverance, and personal improvement rather than simply the result. These values are at the heart of both sport and learning and will be important as students participate in the carnival this week.

Week 4 Assembly Celebration

The Week 4 Assembly was certainly a colourful occasion as our Foundation students celebrated their 100th Day of School. The students proudly embraced the milestone, bringing plenty of energy and excitement to the celebration. As part of the assembly, students were asked, "What is your favourite thing to do at school?" Unsurprisingly, one of the most popular responses was spending time in the playground. It was wonderful to hear students sharing the many things they enjoy about school and to celebrate how far our Foundies have come in their first 100 days of learning.

Looking Ahead: Science Week

This week we will celebrate National Science Week with the theme "Seeds of Science:Nurturing Knowledge for All." Students will participate in a range of science rotations designed to spark curiosity and encourage exploration. Through hands-on experiments and engaging activities, students will have the opportunity to investigate scientific concepts in fun and meaningful ways. We are looking forward to seeing the enthusiasm and excitement that Science Week always brings to our classrooms.

100 Days and Counting for Foundation Students

Our Foundation students celebrated an exciting milestone on Friday as they reached their 100th day of school at Cobram AGS!

The occasion provided a wonderful opportunity to reflect on just how much our youngest learners have achieved since first walking through the classroom doors at the beginning of the year. Over 100 days, they have developed new skills, built friendships, embraced new experiences and grown in confidence as learners.

Miss Dorian and Mrs McLeod made sure the milestone was celebrated in style, with plenty of fun activities to mark the special day and recognise the students' progress.

Congratulations to our Foundation students on their first 100 days of learning. We look forward to seeing where the next 100 take them!

Public Speaking Duo Shine in Local Competion

On 16 August, Alice Lebner and Aidan Macheda represented the school with distinction in the Lions District 201V6 Junior Public Speaking Competition, culminating in an outstanding result at the Region Final.

Alice was crowned the winner of the Year 5/6 division following an impressive four-minute speech responding to the question: If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be, why, and what would you serve them for dinner? Alice chose much-loved Australian conservationist Steve Irwin as her dinner guest, delivering her speech with confidence, personality and poise.

Year 4 student Aidan also performed strongly throughout the competition. For his Year 3/4 topic, students were asked where they would holiday in Australia and why, with Aidan taking his audience on a journey to Hamilton Island and sharing what visitors could see and experience there.

We are incredibly proud of both students for embracing the challenge of public speaking and having the courage to present their ideas in front of an audience. Congratulations to Alice on her outstanding victory and to Aidan on a terrific competition! We now look forward to cheering Alice on in the next round!

Junior School Assembly - 14 August

At our recent Junior School Assembly, we were delighted to recognise and celebrate students who exemplify what it means to be a Purposeful Learner, as outlined in the AngliSchools Vision for Learning.

Purposeful Learners strive to achieve personal excellence, proactively participate in positive and productive activities, and show agency in their learning.

It was wonderful to acknowledge students who demonstrate these qualities in their everyday learning and interactions at school. Congratulations to all of our award recipients for embracing challenges, taking ownership of their learning and continually striving to be their best.

It was also fantastic to once again hear our School Choir perform and share their talents with the Junior School community!

Finally, a big thank you to all the parents and carers who joined us for the occasion. Having our families there to celebrate alongside our students always makes these assemblies that little bit more joyous and special.
