Round 3 Results

Reconciliation Round

This week is the reconciliation round in the SACSSGSA and IGSSA competitions.

The 2025 theme for National Reconciliation Week is Bridging Now to Next, calling on all Australians to step forward together, to look ahead, and to continue to push forward as past lessons guide us. Sport plays a powerful role in bringing people together, strengthening relationships, and fostering a spirit of inclusivity. Reconciliation Round is about more than just competition between schools. It’s an opportunity for players, coaches, and spectators to stand together in recognition of Reconciliation and the ongoing journey toward unity and respect between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians.

In Round 4, Wednesday 21 May - Saturday 24 May, students are encouraged to wear red, black, or yellow ribbons or socks in support of the reconciliation round.  We will also be acknowledging The Traditional Owners of the Land at Loreto College.

Links to further information, facts, posters, social tiles and other resources from Reconciliation Australia are available at National Reconciliation Week - Reconciliation Australia

Thunderbird Sessions

Over the past two weeks our students had the opportunity to take part in some netball training sessions led by Thunderbirds players, Matilda Garrett and Lauren Frew and coach Cathy Fellows. Cathy is an experienced netball coach who has been part of various pathway programs. Her coaching background includes roles with the U21 National Team, Netball Victoria, the Collingwood Magpies, and the Victorian Institute of Sport, in addition to her current role with the Thunderbirds. This is a valuable opportunity for our students to learn from one of the sport’s top coaching minds. We are very grateful to Matilda, Lauren and Cathy for sharing their expert tips and taking the time to visit Loreto. We look forward to many more sessions throughout Terms 2 and 3.

Aerobics

We are extremely proud of our aerobics teams who have been training hard since the very beginning of the year. Their commitment and hard work were on full display at the Super Series Competition on Saturday 10 May. • Summer 8th
    • Lucy 13th
    • Evie 14th
  • 12 year old girls

In Term 3, Loreto will be involved in the Catholic Schools Cross Country carnival. Ms Edwards will be putting our Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 students through their paces in PE sessions this term to help select our team for this event!

Thunderbirds Training

Our Year 3 and 4 netball teams were lucky enough to have a netball training with Thunderbirds shooter Lauren Frew on Monday!

Lauren spoke about her netball journey then took the players through a group warm-up and passing game. Next was goal shooting technique – bend the knees… elbow towards the target… eyes on the back of the ring…  Swish! We finished with some passing relays and then a ton of photos!

Our Year 5 and 6 netball teams will get their chance to work with Lauren on Monday June 2.

Payneham Under 10 Girls Football

Willow (Year 3 Blue) is playing her first season of football this winter, with the Payneham Football Club. Willow is having a great time but her Under 10 team needs some more players!

The team trains on Wednesday afternoons 4:45-5:45pm at Payneham Oval and has matches on Sunday mornings. Further details regarding Payneham FC’s junior program can be found here.

If your daughter would be interested in playing football for Payneham, please contact Ben at Ben.Johnswood@loreto.sa.edu.au.

First Win

Well done to our Year 3 soccer team who won their first game recently, with a pulsating 3-2 victory at Westminster! The team are improving their skills each week and starting to find the goals regularly.

SAPSASA Netball

Well done to Bella, Charlotte, Everly, Paloma and Sophie who have made it through the first two trial sessions for the East Adelaide SAPSASA netball team. The final trial session is next Tuesday – good luck, girls!

Loreto Athletics

A large group of Loreto junior school students have just finished their 7-week Autumn athletics program. Students had a chance to try long jump, high jump, discus, shotput and sprints during the program which culminated in a LORETOlympics event this week.

Well done to all students who participated. There will be another 7-week athletics program running in Spring, through September and October. The program is open to students in Years 3-6 and registrations will open on Clipboard shortly. New participants are welcome!
