Loreto Boarding House Celebrates National Boarding Week

Last week was National Boarding Week—a time to reflect on the friendships, resilience, and sense of community that define boarding life. Here’s just a few of the events that defined our week:

Our Head Boarder and Deputy Head Boarder visited the Junior School, spoke about their experience of boarding, and handed out Dolly’s Dream blue awareness ribbons.

A Day vs. Boarders Netball Match was held in the gym at lunch—congratulations to the Boarders for their win!

Collage posters displaying the regions our Boarders call home were created and displayed around the school, drawing lots of attention and admiration. These beautiful boards are now permanently on display in the Boarding House.

The Boarders led the Senior School assembly with confidence and warmth. They shared stories and a few special videos that brought both laughter and tears. Thanks were extended to the day students and families who show ongoing support to our Boarders through friendship, weekend stays, lifts to sport, and those all-important home-cooked meals.

Wednesday’s “Invite a Teacher to Breakfast” was a major highlight, with many staff attending to take a tour of the Boarding House. The girls had worked hard to prepare and proudly showed off their rooms. The coffee van proved to be a very popular addition!

On Friday, Boarders sold cupcakes alongside a sausage sizzle to raise money for Do It For Dolly Day, supporting Dolly’s Dream, a charity focused on increasing kindness and preventing bullying.

Throughout the week, Boarders took turns greeting students at the main school gate each morning, proudly wearing their Boarders Jumpers. To round out the week’s celebrations, we visited the Wilderness Boarding House for a relaxed and fun-filled movie night. It was a wonderful way to wind down and connect with fellow boarders from another school, celebrating the shared experience of boarding in a warm and friendly environment.

National Boarding Week has been a celebration of community, care, and connection. A heartfelt thank you goes to all who helped make this week such a success.
