Learning Across the

Junior School

Message From the Assistant Principal: Head of Junior School

Grandparents’ and Special Friends’ Day

Today, our Junior School was filled with excitement as we celebrated Grandparents’ and Special Friends' Day. We warmly welcoming over 450 guests to Loreto College, Marryatville.

The event began with a Liturgy, followed by a wonderful singing performance from all students, from Preschool to Year 6. This showcased some of the students’ favourite songs that they sing in class, which complement the learning. Our special guests also had the opportunity to visit the classrooms and enjoy a lovely morning tea.

This much-loved event provides the opportunity to celebrate and strengthen our sense of connection within our Loreto community. A big thank you to everyone who made this event such a memorable occasion.

Year 4 Students Propose Ideas for New Laws to the Commissioner for Children and Young People

This term, Year 4 students have taken on the role of active citizens by researching, drafting, and presenting proposals for new laws they believe would make South Australia a better place. This is all part of our integrated English and HASS unit, I Have a Voice.

After exploring the difference between rules and laws and the role of government, students developed persuasive texts to support their proposed laws. They learned how to structure an argument, back up their ideas with facts, and appeal to an audience using strong language and clear reasoning.

To bring authenticity to their learning, the students will be sharing their persuasive pieces with the Commissioner for Children and Young People. They are writing to the Commissioner to raise awareness about the issues they care about and to practise engaging with real-world audiences in meaningful ways.

We are pleased with the effort and thoughtfulness our students have shown throughout this project. They have demonstrated a solid understanding of how to express their ideas clearly. This experience has given them valuable insight into how they can contribute to their community and be part of important conversations.

Here are some of our ideas!

Da Vinci Decathlon

Over the last 3 days we have had teams in Year 6, Year 7 and Year 9 compete in the da Vinci Decathlon. With the theme ‘Light’ the girls worked across ten disciplines from Engineering to Creative Producers. Completing challenges such as creating kaleidoscopes and answering questions about reflection and refraction, the students worked together and competed against 24 other teams.

We congratulate our girls for taking risks, solving problems and thinking creatively!

Our results over the 10 disciplines:
