Barefoot Bowls
What happens when our staff swap the office and classroom for a little friendly competition?
A fantastic team effort at the Central Coast Chamber of Commerce & Industry's Battle of the Business - Annual Barefoot Bowls! It was great to see our staff working together, having fun, and representing our #centralcoastchamberofcommerceandindustry organisation with enthusiasm and good sportsmanship. What a way to step outside the workplace, strengthen relationships, and support our local business community. Well done to our team for giving it a go!
KINDER 2027
Interest is already high at both Ulverstone and Burnie campuses for Kinder 2027! Thank you to our Primary families for responding to our EdSmart forms asking parents to please let us know if you have a little one for Kinder next year (born in 2022). If you have not yet initiated the enrolment process for your child, we ask that you please do so as soon as possible to secure your child’s spot, and to assist our Principals in determining vacancies for Kinder 2027. Kinder children need to have turned 4 by 1 January in the year of commencement. Siblings are not automatically enrolled and application forms are required for all students. In order for current families to receive a link to the application form, please lodge an 'Enrolment Enquiry Form' on the school’s website: https://www.leighland.tas.edu.au/enquiries
If you are aware of any new families who are interested in enrolment at Leighland for next year for Kinder, or other year levels, please encourage them to complete the Enrolment Enquiry Form so that we can be in touch to organise a tour and information pack, or answer any questions they may have.

NAPLAN 2026
Years 3, 5, & 9 students will be sitting NAPLAN testing between 11 and 23 March 2026
The National Assessment Program-Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are already learning at school. On its own, NAPLAN is not a test that can be studied for, and students are not expected to do so.
Students will complete tests in Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language (Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation) and Numeracy.
NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process – it does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance; however, students and parents may use individual results to discuss progress with teachers.
NAPLAN has been held in March since 2023, having previously taken place in May. This change was made so school systems would have access to results earlier in the school year. These results can then be used to inform teaching and learning plans for the remainder of the year.
Why NAPLAN is conducted online
NAPLAN online provides a better assessment and more precise results. One of the main benefits of NAPLAN online is that it uses tailored (or adaptive) testing. This means that students receive questions better suited to their abilities, so they can show what they know and can do.
Online testing also allows us to provide a wide range of accessibility options to support students with disability to access NAPLAN. Feedback from students is that they find the online test more engaging.
Please note that students in Year 3 complete the Writing Test on paper.
