World Children's Day 2025 

Celebrating play with A Minute of Loudness 

Every year on 20 November (Thursday Week 6), we celebrate World Children’s Day. This special day marks the anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, where governments (including Australia) agreed on 54 different rights that every child under 18 years old should have to live a safe, healthy and happy life. 

On World Children’s Day, UNICEF Australia encourages students of all ages to make some noise about the issues that matter most to them and this year, the spotlight is something that close to every child’s heart – play!  

On World Children’s Day, our Modbury Students turned up the volume for a minute of loudness and extra play! Some of the students made instruments, and some used their voices, as we gathered together to make as much noise as possible for one minute. Following this, the House Captains hosted a short session of plactivities, including bubbles, running races, and skipping ropes, which our children thouroughly enjoyed. What was supposed to be a 5-minute activity went for 30 minutes!

Every child has the right to play - no matter who they are or where they live. Playing helps you learn, make friends, and feel happy. 

We asked our students the following questions:

1. What do you think would make your future brighter, and how do you want adults to help you achieve your dreams?
2. Why is play important to you, and what are your favourite ways to play at school or at home?
