Systemic Knowledge - students will be learning about the following;

Grade 5 

1 - Biological Science - From Cells to Ecosystems

• All about cells (structure, function, types) and ecosystems/habitats (types, conditions, animal, plants, human interactions, changes)
• Describe how living things depend on specific habitat conditions (e.g. water, temperature, light) and explain how changes - natural or human - can affect survival, using examples such as coral bleaching or habitat loss
• Explain the basic structure and function of living things, including cell types (plant and animal), and levels of organisation from cells to systems and organisms
• Describe how living things interact within ecosystems, including food webs and levels of organisation (organism to ecosystem), and recognise the role of First Nations Australians in managing environments sustainably

2 -Geography - Australian and Asian Geography

• How is Australia connected to the Asia-Pacific region, and how do these connections affect people and places?
• Explain how Australia is connected to countries in the Asia-Pacific region through trade, migration and tourism, and describe how these interconnections influence economies, environments and communities.
• Describe how physical features, climate patterns and natural hazards influence where people live and how they work in the Asia-Pacific region, including patterns of population distribution.
• Compare Australia with another Asia-Pacific country using data (e.g. population, development, land use) to explain similarities, differences and levels of development.

Grade 6 

• 1 - HISTORY - Federation and Nationhood

  -Australia changed from separate colonies into one nation - The journey from seperate states to one nation

  -The Australian Constitution - The nations rule book and birth of democracy

  -Not everyone was treated equally in early Australia - Who was left our when Australia became a nation

  -Women and the Right to Vote - The fight for equality in a new nation

  -Wars helped shape Australia’s identity and society  - How conflict shaped a new nations identity

  -Migration has helped build modern Australia - How a new fave of people built modern Australia

  -Towards a multiculture nation - How migration transformed Australia into a vibrant world of many cultures.

  -Australia continues to change through rights, recognition and diversity - Building a Fairer Future for All Australians.

  2 - Technology - Properties of Food and Healthy Design

  - Foods and ingredients have physical, chemical, and nutritional properties that influence how they behave during preparation, cooking, storage, and preservation. Understanding these properties helps predict changes in texture, flavour, appearance, safety, and nutritional value.

• -Food preparation and preservation processes transform ingredients and affect food quality and safety. Processes such as heating, cooling, fermenting, pickling, and freezing can change food characteristics, extend shelf life, and reduce the risk of spoilage and bacterial growth.
• -Successful food design requires balancing nutrition, safety, flavour, texture, appearance, cost, convenience, and shelf life to meet user needs. Ingredient selection and preparation methods are used strategically to create food products and meals that achieve desired outcomes.

SEL - Cyber Safety

Grade 5/6 lessons will be learning how to keep ourselves safe online and understanding how about:

- Take control

- Fear of Missing out (FOMO)

- Emotions in order - exploring the vocab of online talk

- Digital citizenship
