Australian Artist Visits Silverton!

Earlier this month, Grade 5 and 6 students enjoyed a special art incursion with Australian contemporary artist Daniel Butterworth.

During the day, Daniel taught LC4 students all about mixing primary colours and how adding black and white can create different shades and hues. Daniel is an accomplished artist who has participated in the ABC's Portrait Artist of the Year and has worked with schools across Melbourne for many years. 

Students also learnt about Daniel's past experience as a primary art teacher and how he came to use house paint and cardboard as his selected medium.

Throughout the session, Daniel focused on building student skills and encouraging them to trust the process and have fun with their art. One interesting technique students learnt was how adding a small amount of colour to black paint can create more depth and warmth in an artwork.

The students’ artwork will be on display at the 2026 Art Show later in the year, including a special art piece Daniel painted for display at our school.
