Dear parents and carers,
The school was a sea of navy blue today as students took the opportunity to wish Cooper and Conor, two of our Year Six students, well as they head off to the National Championships tomorrow, for Softball and Cricket respectively. Thanks to everyone who has participated in our fundraising activities to support Cooper and Conor with this opportunity.
World Teacher’s Day
Next Friday, 30 October is World Teachers’ Day. We have a curriculum day on Friday so we look forward to celebrating and acknowledging our teaching staff on Thursday 29 October.
Staffing Update
It has been wonderful to welcome Amanda Trebilco back from family leave. Amanda is a long-term staff member and has been a regular relief teacher during her period of family leave. Amanda is working across various classrooms in Term Four.
Student Action
It was an exciting time in 4F when students heard their classmate Clover's petition read out in the Federation Chamber by our local member for Isaacs, the Hon. Mark Dreyfus KC. Clover's petition is advocating for the ban of importation of shark fins from Australia. Thanks to everyone involved in supporting Clover and we look forward to hearing more about your petition. Clover has written more about her experience later in the newsletter.
Regional Athletics
Yesterday we had four students represent our school at the South Eastern Regional Athletics Championships, held at Casey Fields. Zak, Ollie, Sienna and Elsie all committed to their events and achieved excellent results. Congratulations to Sienna, who was the champion in both the 100m and long jump, and Ollie who came second in the 12/13 Year Old 100m. Both Sienna and Ollie will compete at the State Championships next week.
SunSmart Policy
Our SunSmart policy is included further in the newsletter. Thanks to students for wearing their hats each day and utilising our shaded areas when needed. Many students are wearing sunscreen each day. Staff will remind students to reapply before breaks so it is a good idea to have their sunscreen packed in their bag.
Friday 30th of October
As outlined in previous newsletters, Friday 30 October is a student-free curriculum day. Staff will spend the day embedding the improvement work we have implemented throughout our strategic plan. This plan will be reviewed in the first half of 2027.
TheirCare will offer a program on this day for families requiring care.
Monday 2nd of November
Monday 2 November is a school day. If your child will be away this Monday for the Melbourne Cup weekend, please notify their classroom teacher. This will assist with our planning for the teaching and learning on the Monday.
Finally, I have a period of long-service leave starting on November 2. I will be back at Aspendale PS on November 16. During this time, Amelia Busuttil will be the Acting Principal and Leanne Peterson will be the Acting Assistant Principal.
Enjoy the remainder of the week and the sunshine,
Tom
