Upstanders

Upstanders is a collaboration between Bayside City Council and a network of four schools across Bayside who are part of ‘The Upstanders’ community.

The program runs throughout the year with former Billilla Studio Artist, Sarah Bowers inspiring local Grade Five children to find creative responses to bullying. Now in its 14th year, the annual Upstanders program encourages young people to improve social and emotional learning through an interactive arts program.

The artist led workshops exercise creative talents to spread positive community messages and challenge unwanted behaviour. Sarah, and 120 students from four local schools, including BBPS, explored the theme of empathy through musical theatre. The songs and dances performed were to inspire fellow students, and our community, to speak up, find a voice, and support each other in the fight against bullying.

Well done to our grade 5 students, who are taking a stand against bullying.
