The Premier’s Reading Challenge has now ended – we had 41 students complete the Challenge successfully! They will be given a pizza lunch and go into the draw to win a $30 Dymocks gift card early next term.

There is also an app available to download to your phone or tablet/iPad so that you can read or listen to books wherever you are. You can borrow eBooks and eAudiobooks for up to 2 weeks. Click on “Save for later” if you’re not ready to borrow the item yet – this will save them to your “Saved Titles List”. eBooks also contain features that make them dyslexic-friendly – you can change the text font, text spacing, and background colour.

The Grimmelings

Perfect for lovers of horses and mythical folklore, The Grimmelings is a spooky tale set in the misty mountains of New Zealand.

Thirteen-year-old Ella lives on a farm with her family. Her father went missing many years ago, and people in town have been suspicious of her family ever since. When Ella and her brave pony, Magpie, encounter a strange and alluring black horse out on the trails one day, she finds herself wondering if there is a curse hanging over her family. When disaster strikes, Ella must summon the courage to confront her family’s past and save those she loves.

I loved the mysterious and atmospheric storytelling style in this book, and the links to Scottish folklore and magic. I found Ella to be a very relatable character and loved the bond she had with her family. I found The Grimmelings to be quite a heartfelt and intriguing story, and I wish there was a sequel!
