Safety Reminder

Welcome to Spring Time

Reminders for Seasonal Health

As we transition from the chilly days of winter to the warmer, brighter days of spring, it is a wonderful time to embrace fresh starts, outdoor activities, and renewed energy.  However, the change of season also brings a few health considerations to keep in mind - for both students and families.

Common Spring Health Concerns:

1. Seasonal Allergies:

With flowers blooming and pollen levels rising, many students may begin to experience allergy symptoms like sneezing, congestion, itchy eyes, and fatigue. If your child is prone to allergies, we recommend checking in with your family doctor and making sure any prescribed medications are up to date.

2. Asthma Flare Ups:

Spring allergens, increased outdoor activity, and changing air quality can sometimes trigger asthma symptoms. Please ensure students have access to their inhalers and update the school First Aid Officer if there are any changes to their asthma action plans.

3. Cold & Flu Season Is Not Over Yet:

While winter is peak season, spring still sees cases of cold and flu. Continue encouraging good hygiene practices like regular handwashing and covering coughs and sneezes.

4. Springtime Fatigue:

Adjusting to longer daylight hours and changes in routine (especially around daylight savings) can disrupt sleep. Students should aim for consistent bedtimes and plenty of rest to stay focused and alert in class.

5. Mental Wellness:

The shift in seasons can sometimes bring mood changes or increased stress, especially with exams and assessments approaching. Encourage students to take breaks, enjoy the outdoors, and reach out to our wellbeing team if support is needed.

6. Spring Sports Are Here

Spring sports teams are back in action.  With practices and games now underway, please ensure students:

  • Stay hydrated and fuel up with nutritious meals.
  • Bring any required medication (e.g. asthma inhalers, allergy treatments).
  • Wear appropriate sports gear and sun protection for outdoor activities.

As always, our priority is the health, wellbeing, and success of every student. Let’s work together to make this a safe, healthy, and energising spring time.

Thank you for your continued support.
