Indonesian Food Event

Yr 9 Indonesian – Indonesian Food event

Throughout this term the Year 9 Indonesian classes have tried a variety of Indonesian dishes. We made martabak manis, perkedel jagung, and dadar gulung.

Martabak manis is a thick pancake (similar to a crumpet) with condensed milk, chocolate sprinkles, and sometimes even cheese or peanuts on it.

Perkedel jagung is a corn fritter made of sweet corn, chilies, diced onion, garlic, and other herbs and spices fried in oil and often served with chili sauce or sweet soy sauce.

The most recent thing we had was dadar gulung which is similar to a crepe or thin pancake but it has pandan extract in it which makes it green, the pancakes are often topped with fried coconut with sugar and then rolled up.

For the last lesson of the term we will have a pesta mie (noodle party) and eat IndoMie and many different Indonesian snacks to finish up the term. While Bu Lea and Pak Trent worked on cooking all of the delicious food, the students were learning about how to describe different tastes and smells and how to barter when in a market, we also reviewed our numbers and pricing to compliment learning about bartering. Over all it was an amazing term with a lot of hard work put in from Pak Trent and Bu Lea that would not have been nearly as great without them!
