HUMANITIES

In Year 8 Humanities, we are focusing on Civics and Citizenship. As part of our investigation into the Australian legal system, students participated in a roleplay of the hypothetical High Court case, Lee v Australian Electoral Commissioner

Students took on the role of either a High Court justice or a counsel (lawyer) for one of the parties in a case where the High Court was interpreting Section 41 of the Australian Constitution, to find out if Alex Lee, a 16-year-old, had the right to vote in a federal election. This meant creating questions to ask the legal teams and preparing an argument to convince the justices.

Well done to our Year 8s for trying something new and giving the High Court roleplay a go! There were many different outcomes recorded from different classes showing us the powers the High Court has in our legal system.
