ENGLISH

Welcome to another exciting year of English at Mickleham Secondary College in 2025.
We have been very busy learning new content, developing our writing skills and honing our grammar and punctuation in preparation for our CATs that are upcoming.
Year 7:
The year 7s have been eagerly working on their informative CAT – where they have been researching famous and notable people who closely align to our ARCH values here at Mickleham Secondary College. Students have been using their research skills to find out a little more about their famous heroes, and how they have made a positive impact in the real world!
Year 8:
The year 8s have been undertaking a study unit on the documentary The Final Quarter – featuring Adam Goodes. The documentary unpacks racism that was levelled towards Adam Goodes at an AFL Match, and the reactions from the broader public that followed. Students are now in the assessment phase where they will be either developing a script or monologue – pinpointing a moment in time along Adam’s journey after the incident, and reflecting on the thoughts and feelings their chosen character had on the situation.
Year 9:
The year 9s have been undertaking a study unit of the famous short story series by The Brothers Grimm. This unit has invited students to unpack the narrative structure of the short story series from the 1800s, culminating with a creative writing task based on the famous story Rumpelstiltskin. We can’t wait to see the great work our year 9s will produce by the end of term 1!
