Junior School

你 好 (ni hao) Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2 families,
What a fantastic second week of the Term 2 it has been!
Foundation have began exploring Addition exploring the strategies of counting all, counting on using our fingers, number bonds, part-part whole models and number tracks. A favourite game is 'Ready, Steady, Add' which is played in the same way as 'Rock, Paper, Scissors' but instead each player puts 1-5 fingers out on 'Add' and they say 'I have 5, I have 3'.... count on from the largest number to figure out the whole... 'We have 8'. Can you practice this game at home?
A highlight in Foundation this week has been investigating our Guided Inquiry unit 'How did that get in my lunchbox?' Through play-based learning we have opened a 'Farmers Market' where children can practice being workers and customers, selling and buying fresh fruits, bread and vegetables. We had a virtual Bee Keeper Incursion... this was very special as this Bee Keeper was Ashley's Mum all the way in Queensland. She taught us about the vitual role bees play in growing food (fruit & vegetables) and making honey, as well as some super cool facts too! Did you know that bees have 5 eyes and no ears? Cool hey! We also learnt about Chickens and eggs and loved making chickens and bees in craft time! Check it all out in the photos below! Next week the fun continues as Miss Emmett's Mum 'Joy' and Dad 'Gardener Greg' come in to teach us all about how fruits and vegetables grow.
We are so proud of each child for giving Cross Country a go! The motto of the day was 'Try your best and forget the rest!' Well done to every child! It was a super effort by all. Thanks to all the families that came to support and cheer on their child! Your support and help at these events is very much apperciated!
Have a lovely weeken
